The Saskatchewan Medical Association (SMA) serves as a voluntary professional body representing physicians across Saskatchewan, with membership comprising over 90 percent of the province’s physicians. The SMA also offers membership for medical students and residents undertaking their training within Saskatchewan.
As the unified voice of the medical profession in the province, the SMA advocates on behalf of its members and engages in negotiations for physicians operating under fee-for-service, salaried, and alternative payment models.
We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time, permanent Manager, Non-Fee-For-Service (NFFS) Contracts to join our growing team!
This position provides strategic leadership for the services SMA provides to physicians under Non-Fee-For-Service (NFFS) salary and contractual arrangements by: providing expert advice to members on physician service contracts, supporting members with the resolution of contractual disputes involving external employers or contracting agencies, co-leading NFFS contract negotiations in partnership with physician leadership on behalf of the SMA, and collaborating with key partners across the health system to strengthen NFFS compensation frameworks in Saskatchewan.
This position is based on-site at our office in Saskatoon, SK, with a voluntary hybrid work option allowing remote work from home up to 2 out of 5 days per week subject to approval under our Hybrid Work Arrangement policy.
Key responsibilities include:

Provides input to broader SMA planning processes and ensures that NFFS initiatives contribute meaningfully to SMA’s strategic objectives.

Provides leadership to SMA direct reports (if applicable) through delegation, coaching, mentoring, skill development, and performance management, ensuring the team is well-supported to deliver their responsibilities.
2. Negotiations
-
Acts as a spokesperson in NFFS contract negotiations, in collaboration with the Physician Lead, Non-Fee-For-Service (NFFS) Engagement and Director.

Works with individuals or negotiating committees to develop negotiation strategies and contract proposals.

Prepares material and presentations for affected SMA members regarding proposed contract changes.

Project manages multiple concurrent negotiations and ensuring ongoing communication and feedback to affected groups and stakeholders.
3. Contract Management and Member Support Services

Monitors compliance with negotiated contracts.

Gathers information from SMA members to ensure compliance with current contracts and to provide information for future negotiations.

Provides trusted and expert advice to SMA members regarding self-employment status and inquiries related to NFFS contracts.
Provides assistance to SMA members encountering contractual difficulties with external employers or contracting agencies.
4. Stakeholder and Member engagement

Collaborates with other SMA teams (e.g. Economics, Workplace Wellbeing) and committees/boards to ensure alignment of strategies and programs.

Builds collaborative relationships with relevant physician groups to understand needs, emerging issues and priorities.

Maintains relationships with key partners (e.g. Ministry of Health, SHA), representing SMA interests and contributing to collaborative problem-solving.

Leads the development and coordination of strategic communications to inform and engage members, stakeholders, and partners on NFFS matters.

Supports SMA committees and physician leaders to strengthen their effectiveness in NFFS negotiations and governance, including onboarding, succession planning, leadership development, and alignment with SMA strategy.
5. Data Analysis & Reporting

Collects, interprets and reports data related to NFFS contracts and issues affecting NFFS physicians.

Prepares reports, briefing materials, and presentations for SMA senior leadership, the Board of Directors, committees, and external stakeholders.
6. Other:

Participates and provides support to relevant SMA internal committees.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Director.
Qualifications:
-
A bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, public administration, or a related discipline and 5+ years relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. A postgraduate degree (Master’s) is an asset.

5+ years of progressive leadership and team management experience.

Healthcare or public sector experience is an asset.
Salary:
$103,101- $139,489 per annum commensurate with experience.
