Duties
Key Responsibilities:
1. Perform troubleshooting, inspection, installation, and repair of growth chambers, including refrigeration compressors and rooftop condensers.
2. Manage records and provide reports on halocarbon leaks, and design preventive maintenance schedules.
3. Order parts and materials and prepare cost estimates.
4. Assist with maintenance in the greenhouse on mechanical systems.
Intent of the process
Immediate need: 1 full-time indeterminate (permanent) position.
A pool of qualified and partially qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures.
In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, and there is a temporary need, they may be considered for acting, deployment, assignment or secondment opportunities.

Conditions of Employment:
Security: Reliability
Possession of a valid, class 5 Saskatchewan driver’s license, or other provincial/territorial equivalency.
Ability and willingness to travel.
Ability and willingness to work overtime, including evenings and weekends.
Ability and willingness to work a 24-hour on-call rotation and respond to calls in a timely manner (must respond to urgent facility operational issues within 30 minutes of call-out).
With appropriate safety precautions in place:
Ability and willingness to work in harsh environments (e.g., dirty, noisy, humid, hot, cold, and wet conditions).
Ability and willingness to work on ladders and at heights.
Ability and willingness to work in tight, cramped, and/or confined spaces.
Ability and willingness to lift up to 30 kg.

Education:
Secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Occupational Certification:
Possession of a Journeyperson Certificate of Qualification as a Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic (or equivalent).
Experience:
Experience with performing maintenance on building mechanical systems, such as heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
Experience with refrigerant handling (charging, recovery, leak testing, compliant documentation) in accordance with environmental regulatory requirements.
Experience working with trade contractors.
Experience working with computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Applied / assessed at a later date
Knowledge:
Knowledge of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
Knowledge of safety practices applicable to refrigeration systems.
Knowledge of applicable standards, regulations, codes, or acts, such as the Federal Halocarbon Regulations or the Canada Labour Code.
