Hydrovac Operator - Telecommunications
Job Summary:
Cross Cut Directional Boring is seeking to hire a qualified Hydrovac Operator, for short and long-term Telecommunications construction projects throughout Saskatchewan and Western Canada. The appropriate candidate will operate a Tandem or Tri-Axle Hydrovac, as part of a Telecommunications Infrastructure Civil crew, primarily focused on the installation of Underground conduit and fibre cables in rural locations. The successful candidate(s) will have a minimum of 2 years prior Hydrovac Operating experience within the Telecommunications or Utility construction industries.
Primary Experience/Knowledge Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated Telecommunications Hydrovac Operating experience, with Tandem or Tri-Axle size units.
- Experience with Western Star, Peterbilt, or equivalent brands of Hydrovac would be an asset.
- Ability to read, interpret and communicate Utility locates, including maps, drawings and diagrams, and ground locates with paint & pin flags.
- Must be physically fit and able to consistently lift over 50lbs.
- Must hold a valid Class 1 or Class 3 Driver’s license and possess a clean 5 year Driver’s Abstract – Preference will be given to candidates with Class 1 licenses.
Duties and Functions:
- Operate, inspect, load, unload and maintain all Hydrovac equipment, vehicles, and safety equipment required for role.
- Complete Hydrovac disposal processes, including Bills of Lading, safe dumping procedures, cleaning and/or thawing of holding tanks, filling of water tanks, and winterizing procedures as required.
- Communicate verbally, written and using hand signals, in a respectful manner, with team leaders & peers, to ensure safety and accuracy of work being performed.
- Read, interpret and understand maps, drawings and diagrams related to the project design, to determine Hydrovac digging requirements and plans.
- Ensure all applicable permits and locates are reviewed and on site prior to excavation or trenching occurring.
- Perform other duties as instructed while onsite, according to prescribed safety procedures and using appropriate safety equipment.
- Possess effective time management, initiative and problem-solving skills, respect and good judgement, and work well with a diverse range of coworkers.
- Ability to work in remote rural areas.
- Willing to undertake shift work, away from population centres, for 11-21 days per shift.
- Shift requirements vary by location, time of year and project schedule. Base schedule may be 11 on/3 off up to 21 on/7 off depending on project, dates and location.
- Willing to work 12+ Hour days (overtime paid after 10/day & 44/week) during these shifts
- Willing to work alone or in group settings, outdoors, and in all weather conditions & seasons.
- Willing to provide basic hand tools, the company will provide specialized tools for duties as required.
- Must be able to provide a minimum of 3 years of personal insurance history.

Pay: $32.00-$40.00 per hour
