Position Summary
The Director of Flight Operations & Marketing is a senior executive leader responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient management of all flight operations conducted under Airsask 20/20's Air Operator Certificate(s). The Director of Flight Operations serves as the Transport Canada-recognized Operations Manager and shall meet all applicable requirements of the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) and Commercial Air Service Standards (CASS), including CAR 704 and CASS 724. The Director of Flight Operations & Marketing is accountable for operational control, regulatory compliance, flight safety, operational performance, and strategic leadership of the Flight Operations department.
The Director of Flight Operations & Marketing plays a critical role in supporting organizational growth by ensuring flight operations are scalable, efficient, customer-focused, and aligned with corporate objectives while maintaining the highest standards of safety and regulatory compliance. The Director of Flight Operations & Marketing is responsible for performing the duties and responsibilities which include, but are not limited to, the following:
Key Responsibilities
1. Regulatory Compliance & Operational Control
- Serve as the senior authority for Flight Operations, ensuring safety, compliance, and operational standards across the organization.
- Ensure compliance with CARs, CASS, the Aeronautics Act, Operations Specifications, and all approved company manuals.
- Maintain operational control of all flights, including flight planning, monitoring, diversion, and termination authority.
- Ensure all AOC operations are conducted under a compliant and effective operational control system.
- Oversee operational standards for all aircraft and ensure consistent regulatory and policy adherence.
- Identify and manage operational coordination functions impacting control, including maintenance, crew scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Oversee development and approval of the Company Operations Manual and associated procedures.
- Maintain liaison with Transport Canada and other regulatory authorities regarding approvals, audits, and AOC matters.
- Monitor, assess, and disseminate aeronautical information affecting operational safety and compliance.
2. Operational Leadership & Performance
- Lead all Flight Operations functions including flight safety, crew scheduling, training, and operational delivery.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (safety, reliability, utilization, efficiency, and service quality).
- Ensure seamless coordination between Flight Operations, Maintenance, Training, Safety, and Support functions.
- Lead response to irregular operations, disruptions, and recovery planning.
- Drive continuous improvement in operational efficiency, discipline, and customer service performance.
3. Marketing, Business Development & Client Experience
- Collaborate with the CEO, COO, and Commercial team to support the company's growth, marketing, and business development strategies.
- Act as an operational ambassador for Airsask 20/20, representing the organization with clients, industry partners, airports, regulatory agencies, and community stakeholders.
- Provide operational expertise and market insights to support charter sales initiatives, new service offerings, fleet expansion opportunities, and strategic partnerships.
- Contribute to the development of marketing materials, customer communications, and promotional campaigns by ensuring operational accuracy and alignment with company capabilities.
- Support the identification and evaluation of new market opportunities, customer segments, and operational solutions that enhance revenue generation and competitive positioning.
- Foster a premium customer experience culture throughout Flight Operations, ensuring service delivery reflects Airsask 20/20's commitment to safety, reliability, professionalism, and customer satisfaction.
- Participate in client meetings, corporate presentations, and industry events to strengthen customer relationships and promote Airsask 20/20's aviation services.
- Support brand reputation management by ensuring operational excellence, professional conduct, and consistent service standards across all flight operations activities.
4. Financial & Strategic Leadership
- Develop and manage the Flight Operations budget.
- Optimize aircraft and crew utilization to support efficiency and financial performance.
- Contribute to fleet planning, growth strategy, and operational expansion initiatives.
- Support corporate planning and performance management processes.
5. Strategic & Tactical Enterprise Alignment
- Contribute to corporate strategy, growth planning, and long-term operation’s
- Translate Airsask 20/20 objectives into operational priorities, strategies, and measurable outcomes.
- Align flight operations capabilities with fleet planning, and evolving customer and mission requirements.
- Ensure Flight Operations is tooled & equipped for success, including relevant digital solutions.
6. Principal Safety Accountabilities
- Notification to the Accountable Executive (AE) & General Manager (GM) of Trio Group Ventures regarding any safety-related problems and the action necessary to correct or mitigate them. This includes, where applicable, the requirement for additional financial or other resources. When a safety related problem is identified, it must also be communicated.
- Promote a strong safety culture aligned with the Safety Management System (SMS).
- Identify hazards and conduct risk assessments within Flight Operations.
- Ensure safe operational control and standards across all aircraft and operations.
- Supervise Flight Operations, crew scheduling, training programs, and flight safety functions.
- Receive and act on aeronautical safety information and ensure dissemination internally and externally.
- Ensure flight crew qualifications are maintained and verified.
Regulatory Qualifications & Requirements
The Director of Flight Operations & Marketing shall meet the requirements of the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) and Commercial Air Service Standards (CASS) applicable to Subpart 704 operations, including but not limited to CAR 704.07, CAR 704.15, and CASS 724.07,
(a). Air Operator Certificate Requirements (CAR 704.07(1)–(2))
The Director of Flight Operations & Marketing is responsible for ensuring the Company maintains:
- maintain an adequate organizational structure;
- maintain an operational control system;
- meet training program requirements;
- comply with maintenance requirements;
- meet the Commercial Air Service Standards for the operation; and
- conduct the operation safely.
The Director of Flight Operations & Marketing will ensure continuous compliance with CAR 704.07(2) requirements, including:
- a management organization capable of exercising operational control;
- managerial personnel who have been approved by the Minister in accordance with the Commercial Air Service Standards, are employed on a full-time basis and perform the functions related to the following positions, namely,
- (i) operations manager,
- (ii) chief pilot, and
- (iii) where the applicant does not hold an approved maintenance organization (AMO) certificate, maintenance manager;
- operational support services and equipment that meet the Commercial Air Service Standards;
- after January 1, 1997, where a master minimum equipment list has been established for a type of aircraft, a minimum equipment list for each aircraft of that type, approved by the Minister in accordance with the procedures specified in the MMEL/MEL Policy and Procedures Manual;
- aircraft that are properly equipped for and flight crew members who are qualified for the area of operation and the type of operation;
- an operational control system that meets the requirements of section 704.15;
- a training program that meets the requirements of this Subpart;
- legal custody and control of at least one aircraft of each category of aircraft that is to be operated;
- a company operations manual that meets the requirements of sections 704.120 and 704.121; and
- a maintenance control system approved pursuant to Subpart 6.
(b). Operational Control & Safety Requirements (CAR 704.15)
- Authority over flight dispatch, monitoring, diversion, and termination
- Coordination of maintenance, crew scheduling, and operational support functions impacting control
- Ensuring safe and compliant execution of all flight operations.
(c). Statutory Requirements :
Pursuant to CASS 724.07(2)(a)(ii)(A–O), The Director of Flight Operations & Marketing will be responsible for:
- Control of operational standards of all aircraft operated;
- Identification of operational coordination functions affecting operational control;
- Supervision and organization of flight operations, crew scheduling, training programs, and flight safety functions;
- Development, maintenance, and regulatory liaison regarding the Company Operations Manual;
- Liaison with Transport Canada and external agencies affecting operations;
- Ensuring regulatory and company compliance in all flight operations;
- Ensuring compliance with flight and duty time regulations;
- Receipt and dissemination of aeronautical safety information;
- Verification and oversight of flight crew qualifications;
- Maintenance of operational documentation and library systems;
- Oversight of operational support services and equipment; and
- Oversight of subcontracted operational functions.
Educational Qualifications & Credentials
- Hold or have held the appropriate licence and ratings for which a pilot-in-command is required to hold for one of the airplanes operated; or have acquired not less than 3 years related supervisory experience with an operator of a Commercial Air Service whose flight operations are similar in size and scope; and
- Demonstrate knowledge to the Minister with respect to the content of the operations manual, the air operator's certificate and operations specifications, the provision of the regulations and the standards necessary to carry out the duties and responsibilities to ensure safety.

Work Location: In person
