Job Summary
The Massage Therapy Sault Ste. Marie Lead supports the delivery of high-quality skills, clinic and outreach learning experiences for students under the direction of the Massage Therapy Curriculum Coordinator and the Massage Therapy Clinic Lead. This role focuses on in person skills instruction and the coordination of all clinic and outreach activities at one campus location, supervising students during practical outreaches, and providing guidance to ensure a positive and professional learning environment. They are responsible for ensuring sufficient opportunities in clinic shifts and outreaches to ensure students meet the diversity of populations and treatment types and minimum hours. As an Instructor, they contribute to the educational experience by delivering assigned course content, evaluating student performance, offering individualized support where needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
Administrative
1.0 Support a cooperative and coordinated environment among clinic and outreach staff.
2.0 Participate in the student appeal and complaint process when requested.
3.0 Assist in coordinating clinic and outreach components between instructors, ensuring Instructor Manuals and relevant documents/policies are followed.
4.0 Assist with tracking student hours in accordance with college procedures.
5.0 Attend graduation ceremonies.
6.0 Follow and implement the policies and procedures established by the College.
7.0 Participate in meetings with staff, the Program Advisory Committee (PAC), the Internal Program Review Committee (IPRC) and/or the Curriculum Review Committee when requested.
8.0 Participate in student orientations on site or virtually as requested.
9.0 Maintain proper records of student hours as directed by the Program Coordinator to meet all Ministry and accreditation compliance and documentation requirements.
10.0 Submit required documentation and reports as requested by the Program Coordinator.
11.0 Assist with grading and ensure marks report forms are submitted on time.
12.0 Support the review of student medical documents to ensure requirements for clinic and outreach are met.
13.0 Provide regular remediation hours with students in need of assistance as directed by the Program Coordinator.
14.0 Assist in managing the Massage Therapy group email.
15.0 Communicate with students as needed when situations arise.
Clinical Supervision
16.0 Support a positive and professional clinic experience for students and clients.
17.0 Provide supervision, support, and feedback to students during clinic.
18.0 Supervise clinic activities under the direction of the Massage Therapy Clinic Lead.
19.0 Ensuring cancellations and clinic openings are addressed properly with and by students.
20.0 Provide individualized feedback and extra support to students as required.
21.0 Assist with student evaluations using College-approved forms and procedures.
22.0 Keep accurate and complete records of student attendance and performance.
23.0 Update evaluation records on the college’s electronic server as directed and in accordance with accreditation requirements.
24.0 Ensure there are sufficient opportunities in clinic shifts and outreaches to ensure students meet the diversity of populations and treatment types and minimum hours. Report challenges to supervisor for problem solving.
25.0 Follow all standardized materials, schedules, and formats for the operation of clinic, including all policies in the Massage Therapy Student Handbook and Massage Therapy Faculty Handbook.
Outreach Supervision
26.0 Find and schedule appropriate outreach opportunities to meet the populations and treatment diversity requirements of accreditation and the program.
27.0 Review expectations of outreach with students at the start of each outreach.
28.0 Support communication of outreach expectations to outreach staff when needed.
29.0 Follow established college processes for outreach activities.
30.0 Supervise student treatments during outreach and provide feedback and correction when necessary.
31.0 Record and sign off on student treatments performed in a timely manner during outreaches.
32.0 Track and report student attendance during outreach hours.
Instructional
33.0 Deliver prepared course materials through virtual or in-person lectures and the learning management system.
34.0 Teach in accordance with the Instructor Manual, course schedule, and adopted instructional materials.
35.0 Evaluate and mark students' tests, quizzes, exams, and assignments, providing feedback.
36.0 Teach using a systematic plan of lectures, demonstrations, discussions, interactive activities, and projects.
37.0 Inform students in advance of evaluation methods and expectations.
38.0 Organize and effectively use classroom time.
39.0 Use instructional techniques that consider student needs and learning capacities.
40.0 Modify instruction as needed in response to student learning needs.
41.0 Assist students in developing effective learning skills and work habits.
42.0 Deliver all course objectives and modules according to program schedules.
43.0 Implement course outlines and daily lesson plans.
44.0 Establish and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning.
45.0 Maintain fair, firm, and consistent discipline with students.
46.0 Monitor student progress and adjust instruction as needed.
47.0 Prepare teaching materials and course outlines.
48.0 Prepare, administer, and mark tests and assignments.
49.0 Provide individualized tutorial or remedial instruction as needed.
50.0 Supervise independent or group projects.
51.0 Evaluate students in line with College guidelines.
52.0 Ensure evaluation methods are appropriate and consistent.
53.0 Maintain accurate and complete records of student performance.
54.0 Update student evaluation records on the college’s electronic server.
55.0 Prepare final examinations in accordance with course outlines.
56.0 Provide timely academic feedback to students.
Other
57.0 Maintain accurate documentation in all areas of responsibility and ensure safe storage of records.
58.0 Stay current on industry trends and maintain CMTO certification.
59.0 Pursue professional development within the massage therapy profession.
60.0 Pursue professional development in instructional skills for adult learners.
61.0 Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator.
Qualifications
Education
The successful candidate needs to be a Registered Massage Therapist in good standing with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) and hold a current membership with the provincial massage therapy association (RMTAO). Must currently hold or be willing to obtain first aid and CPR level HCP to monitor the clinic.
Experience
The successful candidate requires a minimum of 24 months of working experience in their field of study to qualify as an industry instructor. It will be a requirement for this position that the candidate maintain professional registration through the governing body during employment.

Compensation
The successful candidate can expect starting rate range for instructor duties of $32- $35 per hour.
