St. Andrew’s College is currently accepting applications for a full-time opportunity in the role of Arena Facility Operator / Groundskeeper to assist in the overall maintenance and operation of the arena facility from September to April, and to perform maintenance duties on school grounds from May to August annually.
Shift Requirements:
· Arena – September to April: 10-hour rotating shifts (5:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. to midnight), including weekends, plus one week of nights per month, May to August.
· Grounds – May to August: 8-hour shifts Monday to Friday (6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) with one weekend every 4-6 weeks.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Operate and maintain the arena, ensuring the facility is safe for use
· Monitor and maintain arena facility refrigeration, boiler, HVAC, and associated controls and other operating systems, including safety systems
· Ensure compliance with health, safety, and other regulations and standards
· Operate and maintain the ice resurfacing machine and ice edger
· Inspect and repair boards, kick strips, trim, glass, and perform general maintenance
· Cleaning and upkeep of washrooms and arena facilities
· Respond to emergencies and stabilize the arena until full repairs can be completed
· Assist in the setup for events
· Cutting and trimming of lawn/turf areas every week during the growing season, clearing cuttings, and other debris
· Pruning of shrubs and trees
· Planting and maintenance of garden areas throughout the growing season, including planting annuals, maintaining perennials, weeding/cultivating, fertilizing, watering, and mulching, to ensure optimal selection and appearance of plantings
· Layout and dressing of sports fields for various sports
· Sport field maintenance – fertilizing, aerating, topdressing, and weed control
· Sports equipment maintenance and repair
· Repair and maintenance of property signage
· Maintain or repair tools, equipment, buildings, or fences
Qualifications :
· Minimum completion of secondary school education
· ORFA CIT Certificates in refrigeration and arena operations are considered assets
· A minimum of two years of experience in arena operations and ice resurfacing is required
· Building and grounds maintenance experience is an asset.
· Requires a valid Class G driver’s licence
· Operating knowledge of lawn and garden equipment
