Tŝideldel First Nation is looking for a full-time Director of Child & Family Services based in Chilanko Forks, BC, with a hybrid work arrangement negotiable for candidates based in or near Williams Lake, supported by regular travel to the community.
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, you will play a pivotal role in leading, coordinating, and overseeing culturally grounded, community-driven, and trauma-informed wellness, prevention, mental health, and child and family services that support the wellbeing, safety, and resilience of Tŝideldel children, youth, and families.
In this position, you will be primarily responsible for providing strategic leadership across multiple programs and service areas, strengthening community and partner relationships, advancing Tŝideldel's child and family services jurisdiction, and ensuring services are delivered in alignment with funding agreements, delegated standards, legislative requirements, and Tŝilhqot'in values.
As the Nation continues to build and expand its child and family services capacity, you will play a key role in developing policies, programs, staffing structures, and service delivery models that support both on-reserve and urban members while ensuring the effective use of community resources and funding opportunities.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Leading the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of wellness, prevention, mental health, and child and family programs
- Advancing and supporting the implementation of Tŝideldel's child and family services jurisdiction in collaboration with internal and external partners
- Providing strategic leadership in the development of policies, procedures, governance frameworks, and risk management practices related to child and family services
- Overseeing programs such as Family Wellness, School Outreach, High-Risk Outreach, cultural prevention initiatives, mental health services, the Nation's horse program, and other community-based child and family programs
- Identifying service gaps and developing new programs and initiatives that strengthen supports for children, youth, and families, including the development and operationalization of community resources such as the Nation's prevention and safe house initiatives
- Leading workforce planning, recruitment, supervision, and professional development for a multidisciplinary and growing service delivery team
- Determining and implementing staffing structures that support current and future service delivery needs, including the expansion of child and family services capacity
- Ensuring culturally grounded, trauma-informed, and community-led service delivery across all programs
- Managing budgets, financial controls, reporting, funding agreements, and compliance with delegated program requirements
- Supporting funding discussions, partnership development, and ongoing relationships with funding bodies, government agencies, the Tŝilhqot'in National Government, and other Indigenous organizations
- Coordinating service delivery, intake, and oversight in collaboration with delegated service partners, affiliates, jurisdictional partners, and participating Nations
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with community members, agencies, schools, service providers, and external partners
- Overseeing the effective use and development of community resources and assets that support child and family wellbeing initiatives
- Representing Tŝideldel First Nation in meetings, initiatives, and forums related to wellness, jurisdiction, and child and family services
To qualify, you will ideally have a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education (Counselling), or a related field, and ideally, you bring 5+ years of experience in wellness, mental health, or child and family services, including leadership, supervisory, or senior management responsibilities. Experience working within Indigenous Child & Family Services, jurisdictional service delivery models, or First Nations governance environments will be highly regarded.
A combination of relevant education, skills, and experience, along with a demonstrated willingness to learn about First Nations communities, governance, and cultural practices, will also be considered.
The following are required:
- BC Class 5 Driver’s License
- Ability and willingness to travel regularly to support services across rural and remote communities
- Ability to undergo a police record check and vulnerable sector screening
The following skills and background will be highly valued
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams within human, social, wellness, or child and family services environments
- Understanding of child and family services systems, including delegated service frameworks, standards, and jurisdictional service delivery models
- Knowledge of culturally grounded and trauma-informed approaches to wellness, prevention, and family support
- Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating community-based programs and services
- Experience building teams, recruiting staff, and supporting organizational growth
- Experience developing policies, procedures, governance frameworks, and risk management practices
- Ability to manage budgets, reporting requirements, and compliance with funding agreements
- Experience working with funding bodies, government agencies, Indigenous organizations, or Nation-led service delivery structures
- Strong relationship-building skills with communities, service partners, agencies, leadership groups, and external stakeholders
- Experience working with Indigenous communities, ideally within First Nations contexts
- Familiarity with strategic planning, project coordination, and service delivery oversight
- Experience supporting culturally grounded, land-based, prevention-focused, or community wellness initiatives is considered an asset
- Fluency in the Tŝilhqot'in language (asset)
