Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Accounting Technician to join our team in Victoria, BC. This role is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting functions for a group of construction companies. This role ensures accurate financial records, processes transactions, assists with project costing, and supports month-end reporting. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, experience with accounting software, and an understanding of construction accounting principles, including job costing, progress billing, and subcontractor management.
Job Type: Full-time, permanent
Wage: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour depending on experience
Core Duties & Responsibilities:
- General Ledger: Maintain accurate account balances in the subledgers and general ledgers, record journal entries, and issue balanced trial balances.
- Maintaining accurate financial records within Eclipse accounting software and ensuring transactions are properly coded to the appropriate accounts and job numbers
- Accounts Payable & Receivable: Assist to process, verify, and reconcile vendor and subcontractor invoices, and corporate credit cards. Ensure supporting documentation and purchase orders match invoices and statements
- Assisting with maintaining vendor records, responding to supplier inquires, and assisting with credit applications and account management
- Perform end of job reconciliation of receipts, holdback, and taxes
- Assisting with accounts receivable activities, including monitoring customer balances, tracking payments, and following up on outstanding invoices when required
- Bank reconciliation: Provide backup for daily and monthly reconciliation of bank accounts for multiple entities against transactional history
- Tax Filing: Complile monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to calculate GST and PST. Report and remit payments to government entities
- Inventory: Assist with inventory management by performing reconciliations and end-of-period calculations
- Assist with reviewing, entering and reconciling daily inventory transfers, and performing monthly and quarterly rollovers
- Commission calculations: tracks and maintains divisional commission calculations monthly, quarterly, and semi-annually
- Audit Preparation: Maintain organized accounting records and electronic filing systems to support year-end review engagements and government audits. This includes but is not limited to customer deposits, prepaid accounts, rebates, inter-company transactions, and loans
- Support the implementation and improvement of accounting processes, internal controls, and document management systems to improve efficiency and accuracy
- Support management with administrative tasks and contribute to the smooth running of operations
- Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable accounting standards
Standard Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: A diploma or certificate in accounting, business administration, or finance from an accredited institution. Progress toward a CPA designation is considered an asset but not required
- Experience: 1 to 3 years of progressive, hands-on full-cycle bookkeeping experience
- Software Competency: Proficiency in cloud-based ERP or accounting programs
- Excel Skills: Intermediate to advanced capabilities with spreadsheets (VLOOKUP's, pivot tables, complex data sets)
- Compliance Knowledge: Basic familiarity with Canadian GAAP and ASPE standards
