ABEL Enterprises is a small charity that supports Survivors of Mental Illnesses and Addictions in the Norfolk county community. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual focused on helping our Members grow in confidence and skill, while assisting with small group attendance at community events in Norfolk County, Ontario, having knowledge of local businesses and connection with community events in Norfolk. Flexible hours will include some evening and weekend event participation.
Job Description
The Community Outreach & Events Coordinator acts as the primary liaison between the charity and the surrounding community, responsible for building relationships and assisting with the planning and execution of community events the organizations’ Members can attend, become part of, and grow in skills and confidence. This role focuses on event coordination, working closely with the Members’ FUNdraising Committee, with flexible hours including some weekends and evenings. Reporting to the Executive Director, the duties are based on program-specific outcomes from the Ontario Trillium Foundation and Seniors Community Grant programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain relationships with community event leaders, local businesses, and sponsors.
- Lead social enterprise events and training workshops to foster engagement within the Membership.
- Work with the organizations’ Members to foster inclusivity, training, coaching and encouragement to build skills and confidence of those who are Survivors of Mental Illnesses and Addictions, through participation.
- Help the E.D. create promotional materials, including social media content, press releases, and brochures.
Tasks:
- Attend Staff and weekly FUNdraising Committee meetings to help coordinate and plan event participation to promote leadership for members and co-training of activity tasks.
- Help facilitate monthly Volunteer Team meetings for updates, training and information passing.
- Reach out to the community to create partnerships and reduce costs through sponsorships.
- Ensure sponsors and partners are acknowledged, and sponsorship expectations are carried out.
- Assist the E.D. and Admin with case notes and tracking metrics as required by funders.
Qualifications:
- Degree or related experience in social work, social services, public relations, or a related field.
- Experience in nonprofit organizations, community outreach, or public relations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong presentation abilities.
- Ability to work independently and adapt to changing community needs.
- Passion for the organization’s cause with a proactive, entrepreneurial mindset for partnership development.
Valid G drivers license with clean record required
Contract term:
7-month contract, 15 hours per week, $25/hr.
