About the Role
The Trade Supervisor, Steel (Afternoon Shift) is responsible for leading their team of tradespeople by coordinating and overseeing completion of trade activities within the Shipyard. The Trade Supervisor will ensure that projects are completed efficiently, safely and in compliance with all regulations and company standards. The position reports directly to an Area Manager and requires significant interaction with Trade Management.
What you’ll do
- Responsible for delivering product and customer quality standards. Assumes accountability for safety, cost, schedule and quality performance in area of responsibility.
- Implements and carries out Seaspan's health, safety, environmental and quality processes on the shop floor and strives to eliminate safety hazards at every opportunity.
- Leads team with schedule and priorities, assigning work to trade employees with the skill and ability to efficiently complete scheduled work.
- Collaborates with management to establish daily and weekly goals and holds employees accountable for performance. Reports internally on work process and status to Area Managers.
- Follows and implements the collective agreement and standard methodologies to lead trades employees efficiently. Responsible for discipline, including performance and attendance management.
What you’ll bring
- Red Seal Welder (preferred) or Metal Fabricator.
- A minimum of 3 years management experience directly supervising a trades team in a heavy industrial environment, preferably unionized.
- Dedication to safety and quality, with experience in the application of behavioural based safety.
- Proficient knowledge of trade responsibilities specific to heavy manufacturing/shipbuilding (welding, metal fabrication, electrical, pipefitting, paint/sandblasting, mechanical, rigging, etc.).
- Strong written, verbal and electronic communication skills.
- Time management and organization skills with a proven dedication to follow-up and follow-through.
- Ability to empower others, lead change, have difficult conversations and coordinate discipline when required.
The estimated salary for this position is $115,000-$127,000 plus a shift premium for the afternoon shift. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
