About the Role:
Salish Soils is hiring a practical, detail-driven Finance Business Partner to support strong financial operations, reliable month-end close, and smarter systems as we continue to grow. This role is a great fit for someone who enjoys full-cycle accounting, understands payroll enough to support accuracy and controls, and can turn messy workflows into clean, repeatable processes. You’ll work closely with our Controller, support and mentor our Bookkeeping Lead, and proactively deliver the data and insights our leadership team needs to make faster, better decisions. We’re looking for someone with a strong understanding of finance systems, a track record of implementing them effectively, and a genuine hunger to leverage AI tools to get better data, better insights, and more efficient operations. You’re onsite and hands-on, close to the team, and close to the details that make the numbers make sense.
What You’ll Do:
Full-Cycle Accounting & Month-End Close
- Support full-cycle accounting, including AP, AR, reconciliations, accruals, deferrals, and journal entries.
- Help lead a timely, accurate, and repeatable month-end close process.
- Review financial data for accuracy, completeness, and reasonableness.
- Support variance analysis and help explain what the numbers mean.
- Maintain clean, organized, audit-ready financial records.
Payroll, Controls & Compliance Support
- Support payroll-related review, reconciliation, and accounting entries.
- Strengthen payroll documentation, controls, and review processes.
- Ensure appropriate treatment of GST, PST, source deductions, benefits, and vacation accruals.
- Identify and escalate financial risks, discrepancies, or irregularities early.
- Support audit preparation, reporting requirements, and internal control improvements.
Systems, AI & Insights
- Assess current finance systems, tools, workflows, and pain points with fresh eyes.
- Research, recommend, and lead the implementation of system improvements that stick.
- Actively explore and apply AI tools to reduce manual work, speed up reporting, and surface better insights.
- Strengthen SOPs, templates, reconciliations, and finance documentation.
- Look for opportunities to reduce manual work, duplicate entry, and avoidable errors.
- Proactively deliver financial data, analysis, and insights to the leadership team so they have what they need to make good decisions, without having to ask.
Coaching, Mentorship & Team Support
- Provide coaching and practical guidance to the Bookkeeping Lead.
- Help build accounting confidence, technical skills, and problem-solving capability.
- Support knowledge transfer from the Controller and experienced bookkeeping resources.
- Communicate clearly with operations, leadership, and admin teams.
- Help create a finance culture that is accurate, and business-focused.
Initiative & Ownership
- Take ownership of assigned finance processes and follow through reliably.
- Ask good questions, investigate root causes, and recommend practical solutions.
- Balance detail, deadlines, and business judgment.
- Stay organized during month-end, payroll cycles, and competing priorities.
- Help build a finance function that supports profitability, growth, and better decision-making.
What We’re Looking For:
- 5+ years of accounting experience, ideally including full-cycle accounting and month-end close.
- Strong working knowledge of reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, deferrals, and financial controls.
- Payroll knowledge or payroll accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of finance systems and how to implement them effectively, with a desire to leverage AI tools to get better data, better insights, faster, and more efficiently.
- CPA designation, CPA student status, or equivalent experience is an asset.
What Success Looks Like:
- Month-end close is accurate, timely, and increasingly repeatable.
- Financial records are clean, organized, and trusted.
- Payroll-related accounting is reviewed, reconciled, and well documented.
- The Bookkeeping Lead is supported.
- Finance systems are stronger, less manual, and AI tools are actively in use to improve speed and quality.
- Leadership has the financial data and insights they need to make decisions, before they have to ask.
