JOB SUMMARY

AGLC is seeking to fill an AML Compliance Investigator (Patron) position. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly analytical and detail-oriented professional who enjoys assessing risk, investigating complex situations, working with data and technology, and contributing to a strong regulatory environment.

As an AML Compliance Investigator (Patron), you will play a key role in supporting AGLC's oversight of Alberta's online gaming operations. This position focuses on assessing patron-related risks, conducting compliance reviews, analyzing information from multiple systems and data sources, and identifying concerns that may impact gaming integrity, responsible gambling objectives, and regulatory compliance.

In this role, you will utilize a variety of databases, reporting tools, investigative resources, and research techniques to assess patron activity, evaluate risk indicators, and support informed compliance decisions. Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders, gaming operators, and external partners, you will help ensure a safe, responsible, and compliant online gaming environment while maintaining public confidence in Alberta's gaming industry.

This role is best suited to individuals who enjoy working with data, systems, databases, research tools, and compliance processes while building strong stakeholder relationships. Success in this position comes from the ability to assess patron-related risks, analyze information from multiple sources, and make well-supported compliance decisions.

What You'll Do!

Conduct investigations and reviews patron accounts, online gaming activity, and potential compliance concerns.
Assess patron-related risks through the review of account information, gameplay activity, transaction records, system data, open-source information, and other available sources.
Analyze information from multiple databases, systems, and reporting tools to identify patterns, trends, anomalies, and potential risk indicators.
Utilize SQL queries, reporting tools, spreadsheets, and other technology platforms to support investigations, compliance reviews, and risk assessments.
Conduct open-source research and intelligence gathering to verify information and support investigative findings.
Evaluate information from multiple sources and make sound, evidence-based recommendations regarding patron risk and compliance matters.
Apply legislation, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements when assessing concerns and determining appropriate outcomes.
Prepare detailed reports, risk assessments, findings, and recommendations for internal and external stakeholders.
Collaborate with gaming operators, internal business units, regulatory partners, and other stakeholders to gather information, assess risks, and resolve compliance concerns.
Build and maintain strong business relationships while managing sensitive and complex compliance matters in a fair and objective manner.
Support the continuous improvement of compliance processes, investigative methodologies, and risk management practices.
Monitor emerging trends, technologies, and risks associated with online gaming and patron activity.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Post-secondary diploma in a related field combined
5+ years of experience in compliance, investigations, intelligence analysis, risk assessment, regulatory oversight, fraud prevention, financial services, online gaming, or a related environment.
Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong overall technical aptitude with computer systems and technology platforms.
Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess information from multiple sources and draw accurate conclusions.
Experience reviewing and analyzing large volumes of information to identify trends, risks, patterns, and anomalies.
Experience working with databases, information management systems, and reporting tools.
Strong written communication skills with the ability to prepare detailed reports, risk assessments, and recommendations.
Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to balance procedural compliance requirements with sound judgment, stakeholder needs, and business objectives.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Assets Include
- Experience within online gaming, compliance, risk management, fraud prevention, intelligence analysis, or regulatory environments.
- Experience using SQL, Power BI, SharePoint, or other business intelligence and reporting tools.
- Experience working with large datasets and multiple databases.
- Knowledge of open-source intelligence (OSINT) research techniques.
- Experience conducting patron risk assessments, account reviews, or customer due diligence activities.
- Knowledge of responsible gambling principles and online gaming operations.
- Experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
