OCASSIONAL EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT (EA)

The Niagara Children’s Centre School Authority invites applications for the position of classroom support as an Occasional Educational Assistant (EA). The Niagara Children`s Centre School Authority is one of the Section 68 School Authorities in the province of Ontario. As a Centre of excellence, the Niagara Children’s Centre School provides individualized education and therapeutic programming in small group settings to children and youth 4-21 years of age with multi-learning and physical exceptionalities.

Job Description:

Under the direction of the teacher, an EA will provide education support and therapy to children 4-21 years of age who have physical and/or communication disabilities.

Interested applicants must have:

Demonstrated experience working with students with special education needs of varying ages
Ability to work with classroom teachers in order to establish a positive classroom environment
Ability to support students in the areas of mobility, communication, life skills, and personal care
Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and therapists to support therapy in a classroom environment
Proven ability to deal with classroom management and emergency situations and to take appropriate actions based on established Board policies and procedures;
Ability to communicate in a sensitive, courteous manner with children, parents, staff and others;
Proven ability to follow policies and procedures in an appropriate and timely manner;
Understanding and commitment to confidentiality

Qualifications:

Graduate of a College of Applied Arts & Technology in Educational Assistant and Adult Supports (preferred), or equivalent post secondary training such as Child and Youth Worker, Autism Behavior Sciences.
Experience in an Educational Assistant role in the classroom is considered an asset.
Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and move/carry equipment for program;
Must be able to physically assist children as required (e.g. lifting)
Standard First Aid/CPR and Behavior Management System (BMS) certifications are preferred.
Provision of a satisfactory Police Clearance including a Vulnerable Sector Police Check from the last 6 months (or ability to obtain one) is a condition of employment.

Start Date:

Hiring for occasional/supply work for the 26/27 School Year. You may supply for multiple boards at the same time (DSBN, NCDSB, etc.). Hours are 8:30-4:00 M-F.
