Develop Smart Electrical Inc. is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Fire Alarm Technician with 5+ years of hands-on experience in fire alarm installation, programming, inspection, verification, troubleshooting, commissioning, and maintenance across commercial, residential, industrial, and mixed-use construction projects.
This position is ideal for a senior-level professional who can independently manage projects, lead field activities, coordinate with multiple trades, interpret technical drawings and codes, and ensure all fire and life safety systems comply with applicable Canadian standards and regulations.
Compensation is negotiable based on experience, certifications, programming capabilities, verification experience, and overall technical expertise.

Responsibilities
- Install, service, inspect, troubleshoot, verify, and maintain fire alarm systems in commercial and residential developments.
- Perform annual inspections, testing, and verification in accordance with CAN/ULC-S536, CAN/ULC-S537, and CAN/ULC-S524 standards.
- Conduct advanced troubleshooting of fire alarm panels, communication loops, NAC circuits, initiating devices, annunciators, relays, and integrated life safety systems.
- Program, configure, commission, and test fire alarm systems including networked and addressable systems.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, riser diagrams, sequence of operations, shop drawings, and engineered fire alarm layouts.
- Coordinate directly with electricians, consultants, engineers, project managers, site supervisors, and municipal inspectors during construction and commissioning phases.
- Complete deficiency reports, inspection reports, commissioning reports, service documentation, and closeout documentation accurately and professionally.
- Verify installation quality and ensure systems comply with Ontario Fire Code, Ontario Building Code, Canadian Electrical Code, and applicable ULC standards.
- Support integrated systems including sprinkler monitoring, elevator recall, smoke control, access control integration, generator interfaces, and emergency power systems.
- Lead field crews and mentor junior technicians where required.
- Respond to emergency service calls and critical system faults when necessary.
- Maintain organized work areas and follow all site safety requirements and company safety procedures.
- Participate in project coordination meetings and communicate technical issues effectively with stakeholders.
Experience
- Minimum 5+ years of professional experience in fire alarm installation, service, programming, verification, commissioning, and inspections.
- Active CFAA Certification required.
- Strong working knowledge of: CAN/ULC-S524, CAN/ULC-S536, CAN/ULC-S537, Ontario Fire Code Ontario Building Code, Canadian Electrical Code
- Proven experience with major fire alarm systems including: Mircom, Notifier, Edwards/EST, Siemens, Simplex, Honeywell, Kidde, Fire-Lite
- Experience with addressable and conventional fire alarm systems.
- Strong understanding of relay logic, control circuits, low-voltage systems, signal pathways, integrated life safety systems
- Ability to independently diagnose complex system faults and commissioning issues.
- Experience working on active commercial construction sites and occupied buildings.
- Ability to supervise projects and coordinate field activities efficiently.
- Strong communication, leadership, and documentation skills.
- Valid Ontario G Driver’s License with clean driving record.
- Ability to lift equipment, climb ladders, and work in mechanical/electrical rooms and construction environments.

- Valid Ontario Driver’s License
- Fall Protection Training (preferred)
- First Aid & CPR Certification (asset)
Preferred Additional Qualifications
- Fire alarm programming certification from major manufacturers considered a strong asset.
- NICET Fire Alarm Systems Certification considered an asset.
- Electrical license (309A or 442A) considered an asset.
- Experience with integrated building automation systems and security systems is an asset.
- Experience with high-rise residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed-use developments preferred.
- Knowledge of network communication protocols, fibre optics, and low-voltage infrastructure considered an asset.
