Applications are invited for the position of Human Resources Consultant in the Human Resources department, located at the Welland Campus. The salary range is $100,363 to $125,454.
Reporting to the Director, Labour Relations and Employee Services, the Human Resources Consultant provides a full range of labour and employee relations consulting, advisory, and operational support across key people-related matters. Working within an assigned client portfolio, the HR Consultant partners with leaders and employees across academic, administrative, and support areas to address complex workplace issues, interpret and apply collective agreements and policies, and support fair, consistent, and legally sound decision-making. The role requires developing a strong understanding of the operational context, strategic priorities, and workforce dynamics of supported areas in order to deliver practical, risk-informed solutions that align with organizational objectives and employee relations best practices.
As part of a broader Human Resources team, the HR Consultant works collaboratively across functions and portfolios to ensure an integrated and consistent approach to service delivery. This includes sharing expertise, aligning on approaches, and partnering with colleagues to support client needs and advance organizational priorities, with a focus on delivering seamless, coordinated HR programs and support.

Acts as a trusted advisor to leaders, providing strategic and day-to-day labour and employee relations support across workplace matters, including performance and attendance management, workplace conduct, conflict resolution, and progressive discipline

Interprets and applies collective agreements, legislation, policies, and procedures to support fair, consistent, and legally sound decision-making

Builds strong relationships within an assigned client portfolio, proactively identifying and addressing both routine and complex employee relations issues

Leads and supports workplace investigations, including fact-finding, interviews, and recommendations, with a focus on objectivity, confidentiality, and defensible outcomes

Partners with leaders and liaises with union representatives to manage and resolve employee and labour relations matters, including performance discussions, disciplinary processes, and grievance-related issues

Provides practical guidance on workforce planning and staffing decisions, including scheduling, overtime, and talent considerations, aligned with operational needs

Contributes to the development and implementation of HR programs, practices, and strategies that support effective labour and employee relations across the College

Partners across HR functions and portfolios to deliver coordinated, consistent services, ensuring an integrated approach to support organizational priorities and effective service delivery

Degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, or a related field

CHRL designation

Minimum seven (7) years of progressive human resources experience, with a strong focus on labour relations, workplace investigations, and performance management in a unionized environment

Advanced knowledge of employment and labour legislation, and demonstrated experience interpreting and applying collective agreements in a practical, defensible manner

Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply sound judgment and develop thoughtful, practical solutions to complex and sensitive issues

Strong verbal and written communication skills, with experience preparing correspondence, reports, investigation summaries, and recommendations

Demonstrated commitment to superior client service, with a proactive and responsive approach, and the ability to manage issues in a timely way while balancing competing priorities

Proven ability to manage a high-volume workload, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and evolving environment

Ability to confidently navigate contentious matters with professionalism, discretion, and a high level of confidentiality
