Tire & Lube Technician
--------------------------
Minit Auto Service | St. Catharines, Ontario
$20–$24/hour + Bonus Incentives | Full-Time | Monday–Friday
--------------------------
Looking for more than just another tire and oil job?
If you enjoy working on vehicles, take pride in doing things properly, and genuinely like helping people, we'd like to meet you.
At Minit Auto Service, we're looking for a Tire & Lube Technician who wants to develop beyond tires and oil changes.
This role is an opportunity to build your automotive knowledge, learn how to perform excellent bumper-to-bumper vehicle inspections, become highly proficient with Digital Vehicle Inspections (DVIs), and develop the communication and client-service skills that can eventually lead to a Service Advisor position.
If you're mechanically inclined, comfortable with technology, good with people, and looking for a place where you can build a career in the automotive industry, this could be a great fit.
Why Minit Auto Service?
We've been serving the Niagara community since 1990. We're a family-owned and operated business with strong growth aspirations, and we're building a world-class team of people who want to grow with us.
We've built our business around something pretty simple:
Take care of our team, take care of our clients, and complete each task correctly the first time with meticulous care.
We call that The Minit Auto Way.
We're a busy, established, full-service automotive repair facility working on a wide variety of vehicles and repairs. Our team uses modern diagnostic equipment, digital vehicle inspections and professional processes designed to provide our clients with a better automotive service experience.
We believe our technicians are professionals. We want them to understand why they're doing something—not simply complete a task and move on to the next vehicle.
Just as importantly, we want people to have an opportunity to grow.
We're not looking to simply fill a position. We're looking for someone who could become an important part of our team as Minit Auto continues to grow.
For the right person, this position can be the starting point for a much larger career with Minit Auto.
What You'll Be Doing
Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Tire installation, seasonal changeovers, rotations, balancing and tire repairs
- Oil and filter changes and other routine preventative maintenance
- Performing thorough bumper-to-bumper vehicle inspections
- Completing clear, accurate Digital Vehicle Inspections (DVIs), including photographs, observations and recommendations
- Identifying maintenance, safety and repair concerns and communicating your findings clearly to our Service Advisor team
- Checking fluid levels, tires, brakes, steering, suspension, lights, filters, belts and other vehicle systems as part of our inspection process
- Helping ensure vehicles leave our shop safe, properly serviced and professionally cared for
- Learning from our experienced technicians and Service Advisors
- Building your technical, communication and client-service skills as you grow within the company
We don't want someone who simply changes the oil and moves on.
A major part of this role is learning to see the entire vehicle.
We want our clients to understand the condition of their vehicle: what's good, what needs attention today, and what they should be planning for in the future. Your inspection and DVI are an important part of building that trust and educating our clients.
Client Experience is Paramount Here
Technical ability is important, but so is the way we make people feel.
Our clients trust us with their vehicles, their family's safety and often one of the largest purchases they own. We take that responsibility seriously.
You'll be part of delivering that experience—from the quality of your inspection, to the cleanliness of the vehicle, to the accuracy of the information you provide our Service Advisors.
That's why we're particularly interested in someone who:
- Enjoys interacting with people
- Communicates clearly and professionally
- Is comfortable using technology
- Takes pride in their work
- Has a strong eye for detail
- Believes that doing something correctly the first time matters
- Notices the things others sometimes miss
- Wants to understand vehicles rather than simply complete assigned tasks
- Can accept coaching and wants to keep improving
- Wants to be part of a team with ambitious plans for the future
Interested in Becoming a Service Advisor?
Even better.
We're specifically interested in finding someone who may eventually want to move from the shop floor into a Service Advisor role.
You'll have the opportunity to develop an understanding of both sides of our business: how vehicles are inspected and serviced, and how we communicate that information to clients.
Over time, the right candidate can develop skills in:
- Vehicle maintenance and repair knowledge
- Digital Vehicle Inspections
- Client communication
- Explaining maintenance and repair recommendations
- Repair-order processes
- Parts and labour estimating
- Shop workflow
- Client relationship management
- Service advising
We aren't promising an automatic promotion or a specific timeline. What we are offering is the opportunity to learn, develop and demonstrate that you're ready for greater responsibility.
As Minit Auto grows, we want our people to have the opportunity to grow with us.
What We're Looking For
You don't need to know everything on your first day. We're much more interested in finding someone with the right attitude, aptitude and desire to grow.
Ideally, you'll bring:
- Previous automotive, tire, quick-lube or related mechanical experience
- A good basic understanding of vehicle maintenance
- Experience installing and balancing tires
- The ability to safely perform oil changes and routine maintenance
- Strong attention to detail
- Comfort using tablets, smartphones and digital tools
- A valid driver's licence
- A professional and respectful attitude
- Reliability and a strong work ethic
- A genuine interest in learning and developing your automotive career
Automotive schooling, apprenticeship experience or previous DVI experience would be an asset, but we're willing to invest time in the right person.
What We Offer
$20–$24 per hour, based on experience and capability, plus bonus incentives.
You'll also get something that's becoming increasingly difficult to find in automotive:
Your weekends.
We're open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and closed Saturdays and Sundays. Spending time with family and friends is important!
We also offer:
- Full-time, consistent employment
- Bonus incentive opportunities
- Monday-to-Friday schedule
- No weekends
- No late nights
- A busy, established shop with consistent work
- Modern Digital Vehicle Inspection technology
- Exposure to a broad range of vehicle makes, models and repair work
- Experienced technicians and Service Advisors to learn from
- A professional, team-oriented working environment
- Opportunities to expand your technical knowledge
- A defined opportunity to develop toward a future Service Advisor role
- The stability of a family-owned and operated automotive business serving Niagara since 1990
- The opportunity to join a company with strong growth aspirations and a commitment to building a world-class team
