Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Early Childhood Educator to join our team. As an Early Childhood Educator, you will play a vital role in providing a nurturing and educational environment for young children, ages 18 months to 5.9 years old, through our nature based programming. Duties:
-Aid in developing and implementing child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children.
-Lead and support activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, taking children to local points of interest and providing opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity.
-Maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children (indoors and outdoors).
-Aiding in the assessment of the abilities, interests and needs of children and discuss progress with parents and other staff members.
-Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and aid in preparing reports for parents, guardians or supervisor. Must be comfortable discussing these observations with parents.
-Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing, sleeping, and toileting habits. Must be comfortable with changing children’s diapers and clothing if soiled.
-Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers, parents, and community service providers working with children.
-Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods.
-Maintain daycare equipment and assist in housekeeping duties
-Adhere to homeroom routines, positive behaviour guidance strategies, and staff policy and procedures.
-Uphold all Childcare Regulations and be comfortable discussing any issues with staff or management when these childcare regulations are not followed.
-Maintaining all training necessary for the position (Renewals, Trainings, and Checks)
Inclusion Support Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one and/or small group support to children requiring additional developmental, behavioural, physical, emotional, or social support.
- Implement individualized support strategies and goals as directed by Inclusion Support Plans and external professionals.
- Support children in participating fully in daily routines, activities, transitions, outdoor play, and group experiences.
- Use positive behaviour guidance techniques to encourage independence, self-regulation, and social skill development.
- Maintain ongoing communication with educators, families, supervisors, and community professionals regarding children's progress and support needs.
- Complete observations, documentation, and reports as required.
- Assist children with personal care needs while maintaining their dignity, safety, and well-being.
- Work collaboratively with the classroom team to ensure an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all children.
Educational/ Training Qualifications:
- Valid AECENL certification in Early Childhood Education (Level 1, 2 or 3) (Entry Level/ Trainees may apply - Wage Grid salary will be implemented 18.06-18.79/hour)
-First Aid Training
- Valid RNC Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check
Additional Qualifications Considered an Asset:
- Experience working with children with diverse developmental, behavioural, physical, or communication needs.
- Training or experience in Inclusion Support, Special Education, Behaviour Management, Autism Support, or related fields.
- Ability to adapt programming and activities to meet individual children's needs.
- Strong observation, documentation, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated patience, empathy, flexibility, and a commitment to inclusive childcare practices.
