Full job description

About the Role:

As a Coach or Sport Coordinator for our Summer Camp in Canada, you will play a pivotal role in delivering an engaging, safe, and educational sports experience for children and youth. Your primary objective is to design, organize, and lead a variety of sports activities that promote physical fitness, teamwork, and personal development. You will collaborate closely with camp staff to ensure all programs align with the camp’s values and safety standards, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment. This role requires you to motivate participants of diverse backgrounds and skill levels, helping them build confidence and sportsmanship. Ultimately, your efforts will contribute to a memorable and positive summer camp experience that encourages lifelong healthy habits and social skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

Certification in coaching or sport instruction from a recognized Canadian or international body.
Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification.
Experience working with children and youth in a sports or recreational setting.
Strong knowledge of various sports rules, techniques, and safety practices.
Ability to pass a criminal background check and vulnerable sector screening.

Preferred Qualifications:

Post-secondary education in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Recreation, or a related field.
Previous experience coordinating sports programs or camps.
Additional certifications such as NCCP (National Coaching Certification Program) or equivalent.
Experience working in multicultural or diverse community settings.
Bilingualism in English and French.

Responsibilities:

Plan, organize, and lead daily sports activities and programs tailored to different age groups and skill levels.
Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants by enforcing camp rules and safety protocols during sports sessions.
Provide coaching, guidance, and encouragement to campers to develop their athletic skills and teamwork abilities.
Coordinate with other camp staff to integrate sports activities with the overall camp schedule and special events.
Maintain and manage sports equipment and facilities, ensuring they are safe and ready for use.
Monitor and assess camper progress, providing feedback and adapting activities to meet individual needs.
Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and camp management regarding camper participation and any concerns.
Promote an inclusive environment that respects diversity and fosters positive social interactions among campers.

The required and preferred skills are essential for creating a dynamic and safe sports environment at the summer camp. Strong coaching and instructional skills enable you to teach sports techniques effectively while adapting to different learning styles and abilities. Communication skills are critical for interacting with campers, parents, and staff, ensuring clear understanding and positive relationships. Organizational skills help you manage schedules, equipment, and resources efficiently to deliver smooth daily operations. Additionally, leadership and motivational skills are used daily to inspire campers, foster teamwork, and maintain a positive and inclusive atmosphere throughout the camp.
