About Intertidal Services
Intertidal Services Inc. provides individualized supports to children, youth and adults with varying and complex support needs. Services are provided within community and program settings and may include behavioural support, personal care, skill development and community access. We are looking for experienced, compassionate and dependable Direct Support Workers who are committed to providing respectful, person-centred support.
Who We Are Looking For
We are particularly interested in applicants who have direct experience supporting children, youth or adults in human-services settings including:
- Group homes or residential care
- Community disability services
- Behavioural or complex-needs environments
- Child and youth care
- Day programs
- Other comparable human-services environments.
Relevant post-secondary education includes:
- Child and Youth Care
- Community Disability Studies
- Human Services
- Social Sciences
- Addictions Studies
- Other related human-services diplomas or degrees.
Qualifications
The qualifications required will depend on the level of support and complexity of the program.
Lower-Risk Support Environments
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
Higher-Risk / Complex Support Environments
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Child and Youth Care, Human Services, Social Sciences, Community Disability Support Services or a related field
- Approximately 3–5 years of relevant experience supporting individuals in group care, disability services, behavioural support or another comparable setting.
Additional qualifications include:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to follow Individual Support Plans and Behaviour Support Plans
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary support team
- Commitment to maintaining the dignity, privacy, rights and independence of Individuals receiving services
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, which may include lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs, standing, sitting, walking, reaching, crouching and bending
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence and appropriate vehicle insurance
- Current First Aid & CPR certification is considered an asset.
Responsibilities
Depending on the program and needs of the Individual, Direct Support Worker responsibilities may include:
- Supporting Individuals with activities of daily living
- Assisting with personal hygiene, grooming and dressing
- Supporting community participation and meaningful activities
- Modelling emotional regulation and positive interactions
- Implementing Individual Support Plans, Behaviour Support Plans and planned positive procedures
- Preparing nutritious meals in accordance with dietary needs and preferences
- Administering medication in accordance with organizational requirements
- Maintaining a clean, respectful and safe home or program environment
- Completing required documentation and communicating relevant information with the support team
- Attending mandatory training, staff meetings and team meetings
- Supporting Individuals in a manner that promotes dignity, choice, independence and quality of life.

Wage
$19.50–$22.00 per hour
Starting wage is determined based on a combination of relevant education, experience and the requirements of the position.
