THE OPPORTUNITY
The Facility Attendant provides facility user support to enhance the quality, safety and standards of customer experience and facility operations. When supporting facility functions, the incumbent will provide quality customer service through their support of users of the facility spaces. This may include, but is not limited to, meeting room set up and take down, meeting room AV support, janitorial and clean-up of facility spaces following rentals or use. They may also be required to support the operations through additional customer service and behaviour monitoring during larger events and performances. This position takes day-to-day directions from department staff they are assigned to work with and report directly to the assigned Facility Supervisor or designate.
This is a part-time, permanent position and is part of the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE).
Note:
- The primary work location for this position will be the Border Paving Athletic Centre.
- The primary schedule will be four shifts a week, typically from 11:00am-4:00pm.
Salary: $22.98 - $26.42 hourly
RESPONSIBILITIES
Janitorial:
- Perform basic janitorial and general cleaning of facility spaces to ensure the safe and clean operation of the facilities.
- (Re)Stock and monitor washrooms and other facility areas for supplies and materials.
Facility Operation and Event Support:
- Set up and take down of facility rooms, spaces and equipment as directed.
- Assist users and the general public with the operation of meeting room AV and Hub equipment, as required.
- Provide on-site supervision to outdoor play/park spaces, as assigned, including Jubilee Spray Park, Skateboard Park and other areas as assigned.
- Assist program, Front of House and other department staff with the set up and take down of events, performances, and other department functions, as assigned.
- Conduct water tests and other daily facility operation tasks, reporting any issues or maintenance requirements to the supervisor immediately.
Facility Supervision & Behaviour Monitoring:
- Monitor behaviour of patrons, respectfully addressing inappropriate behaviour to ensure the safety and positive experience for all users of the park.
- Engages appropriate support from supervisor, and/or Enforcement Services, when required, to ensure safety of facility, other patrons, other staff, and self.
- Documents and records all incidents and facility damage.
- Follows all City standards and legislation related to respectful behaviour, FOIPP and other policies and procedures.
- Adheres to all Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
Other Duties
- Understand and adhere to City policies, procedures and standards, whether written or implied, as amended from time to time.
- Contribute to a positive safety culture by always acting in a safe manner and complying with City safety policies and procedures for staff and contractors.
- Act as a steward of the City's Corporate Culture by following the “Values, We Live By”.
- All employees shall act in a safe manner at all times and will report any unsafe conditions, procedures or acts for the benefit of the City. Continual adherence to the City Safety Policy is mandatory.
- Employees are expected to stay current on WHMIS and other safety-related procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma and a minimum of 18 years of age
- 1-2 years customer service experience, with knowledge and experience in Basic Meeting Room AV equipment set up, Working with Youth, Mechanical systems.
- Strong Verbal Communication, Problem Solving and Analytical Skills
- Skateboarding (is an asset)
- Conflict Resolution
- Pool water tests
- Ability to be adaptable and improvise.
- Able to resolve issues and conflict calmly.
- Respectful Communication skills
- Physically able to lift, carry and pull items.
- Mechanical Aptitude
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
- First Aid Class C
- Basic Level - Active Net, Microsoft Windows, Windows Media Player, System set ups (projectors)

- Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Must obtain a satisfactory review of a three-year Driver’s Abstract, with a maximum of six demerits.
- First Aid Certification
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Shift Work – including evenings, weekends and or Statutory holidays.
- Overtime may be required.
- Travel may be required.
