Job Overview: Gobind Sarvar School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Guidance Counselor to join our diverse team of educators. The ideal candidate will be committed to helping students achieve their highest potential by providing comprehensive counseling support and guidance in alignment with our school's values and goals.
Key Responsibilities:
· Counseling and Support: Offer individual and group counseling to students, addressing academic, emotional, and social issues. Develop and implement strategies to support student well-being and success.
· Academic Guidance: Assist students with academic planning, goal-setting, and course selection. Monitor and support students who may be experiencing academic challenges.
· Career Counseling: Provide guidance on career exploration, college admissions, and vocational training opportunities. Help students understand and pursue their career goals.
· Crisis Intervention: Respond to and manage crisis situations, providing immediate support and referrals to appropriate resources as needed.
· Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, administrators, and parents to address student concerns and support overall school success. Foster strong communication and collaboration among all stakeholders.
· Program Development: Design and facilitate programs or workshops on topics such as study skills, conflict resolution, and stress management.
· Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of counseling sessions and interventions while ensuring confidentiality and compliance with relevant regulations.
· Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in counseling and education. Contribute to the school’s continuous improvement efforts.
Qualifications:
· Certification: Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate required.
· Education: Bachelor of Education Degree or equivalent recognized by Alberta Education.
· Experience: Previous experience as a school counselor or in a similar role is preferred. Experience working with adolescents is highly desirable.
· Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to adapt to a supportive learning environment. Proficiency in managing sensitive information and crises.
· Attributes: Compassionate, flexible, and collaborative, with a commitment to supporting student growth and academic success.
Additional Requirements:
· Cultural Sensitivity: Adhere to school values by covering your head with a bandana while on school property, during field trips, and any other activities related to the school.
· Dietary Requirements: Bring vegetarian snacks and lunches (no meat, eggs, or fish) while on school premises and during school hours.
