Safety is fundamental to everything we do. We're looking for a proactive, hands-on Health & Safety Officer who is passionate about protecting people, improving processes, and building a strong safety culture in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Working closely with Operations, supervisors, and employees, and Human Resources you'll play a key role in developing safe work practices, conducting inspections and investigations, writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), delivering training, and ensuring compliance with Ontario health and safety legislation. What You'll Do
This is a newly created role, giving you the opportunity to help shape and strengthen our health and safety program as our organization continues to grow. You'll work closely with leaders across the business, influence how safety is integrated into our operations, and play a meaningful role in building a strong, sustainable safety culture.
As the Health & Safety Officer, you will:
- Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Element5's Occupational Health & Safety Program.
- Develop, review, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Safe Work Procedures, hazard assessments, inspection checklists, and other safety documentation.
- Conduct workplace inspections, safety observations, hazard assessments, and compliance audits throughout the facility.
- Investigate workplace incidents, injuries, near misses, and safety concerns, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Work closely with supervisors and employees to provide practical health and safety guidance and coaching.
- Coordinate employee health and safety orientations, training sessions, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety communications.
- Support the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC), including inspections, meetings, documentation, and action item follow-up.
- Maintain health and safety records, training documentation, corrective action logs, and compliance records.
- Coordinate Ministry of Labour inspections, regulatory inquiries, and compliance activities.
- Support WSIB claims administration, early and safe return-to-work programs, and modified work initiatives.
- Maintain the site's Fire Safety Plan and support emergency preparedness activities.
- Champion a positive, proactive safety culture across the organization.
What You'll Bring
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or a related discipline.
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation or actively working toward certification is considered an asset.
- Minimum 5 years of occupational health and safety experience in a manufacturing, industrial, construction, or similar environment.
- Strong knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and applicable regulations.
- Experience conducting workplace inspections, incident investigations, hazard assessments, and corrective action management.
- Experience developing SOPs, Safe Work Procedures, work instructions, hazard assessments, and employee training materials.
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
- Excellent communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint).

Working Environment
This is a hands-on role requiring regular presence throughout our manufacturing facility, including the production floor, warehouse, yard, and office environments. You'll work closely with employees at all levels while conducting inspections, investigations, training, and continuous improvement initiatives. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn in designated operational areas.
