Opportunity
We are currently recruiting a Multicultural Victim Services Outreach Worker to join the Mental Health and Family Well Being Department. This position will provide outreach support, information, advocacy, and referrals for individuals who have been victims or affected by crime. This individual will use a strength-based approach to support clients to meet their needs and achieve their goals.
The Key Areas of Responsibility are:

Providing outreach and support to women who have experienced violence by connecting them with applicable community support services;

Conducts client intake by performing duties such as obtaining demographic
-
information, providing information regarding the victim service worker’s role and the services offered by the organization, assisting clients in completing intake forms, and explaining issues related to confidentiality;

Assesses clients’ need for services and provides them with information on helping organizations and professionals such as community service agencies, counsellors, legal aid lawyers, physicians and mental health services. Recommends appropriate services to clients;

Provides emotional support to clients who have been victims of crime through active listening, debriefing and validating clients’ emotions;

Assists with the facilitation of women’s understanding of her experience and the emotional and psychological impact of the trauma;

Participates in public education to raise awareness of physical or sexual assault and/or abuse;

Consults and liaises with community service agencies to maintain up-to-date information on available resources and develop community relations;

Provides crisis response and intervention as necessary;

Maintains and provides statistics and reports regarding service delivery as required;

Participates in annual performance appraisals with their Manager;
-
Performs other related duties as required.

Weekends and Weekdays and schedule hours from 8:30 to 6pm (Flex) based on client needs.
Qualified Candidates will possess:
-
Diploma in Social Work, Community Social Services or related human services, and two years’ recent community services related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience;

Demonstrated understanding of women’s issues including the impact of domestic violence;

Demonstrated ability to explore and teach coping strategies;
-
Must be comfortable working with individuals who have experienced trauma;
-
Must be able to respond to or assist in emergency situations, and have good interpersonal, mediation, negotiation and conflict resolution skills;

Knowledge of available community services for survivors of domestic violence;
-
Knowledge in the areas of needs and risk assessment, family dynamics and the impact of trauma;

Ability to assess trauma and safety plans;
-
Verbal and written proficiency at a professional level for both English and one of the contracted languages;

Valid Class 5 Drivers’ License and access to a personal vehicle;
-
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team setting - inter-departmental teams and community service providers;
-
Computer literate in MS Office, internet and email applications.
