Team Leader, Youth Programs

The Belonging Network provides education, support and connection for BC’s permanency community. This includes adoptive families, kinship caregivers (relatives raising relatives), Indigenous customary caregivers, and families providing other forms of love and stability. We also support thousands of young people aging out of government care and navigating early adulthood.
About the role:
The Team Leader, Youth Programs is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Belonging Network’s AgedOut.com website, a unique, interactive portal providing resources and support for youth aging out of government care into adulthood, and for the operation of other youth programs. The role participates in program development, including new offerings that address greatest needs and service gaps. Reporting to and supporting the Director, Programs, the Team Leader supervises a small number of staff and contractors, while performing many program tasks themselves.
This is a full-time role based in the Lower Mainland, working 5 days (35 hours) a week. The Youth Lead will work primarily from a home office, with regular attendance required at our Lower Mainland office in downtown Vancouver. A valid drivers licence and access to a reliable vehicle is required to support travel in the Lower Mainland and across BC.
Major duties and responsibilities:
AgedOut.com
- Oversee and maintains the AgedOut.com website from day to day.
- Create content for the website and other youth communications.
- Conduct semi-annual site audits and make necessary updates and improvements.
- Oversee the website’s gamification incentive program ensuring expenses stay within annual budgets
- Meet youth-related deliverables in our service contract with the provincial government.
- Respond to complex inquiries from youth and other website users.
Other/All Youth programs
- Maintain and develop other offerings for youth in and from government care to support their transition to adulthood. These may include bursaries, life skills, and career skills offerings.
- Manage bursary programs including our partnership with the TELUS Friendly Future Foundation for the TELUS Orca Student’Bursary, powered by Belonging Network.
- Recruit and engage a standing Youth Advisory group representing the perspectives of youth in-and-from government care, to ensure their voices and needs inform all programming.
- Implement systems to measure program participation, quality, impact and client satisfaction and provide reports as required.
Promotion and partnerships
- Increase usage of AgedOut.com and uptake of other youth programs by engaging with other youth-serving organizations across BC and potentially beyond BC. Organize and present virtual and in-person sessions, attend and present at conferences.
- Meet regularly with our provincial government contract supervisor to ensure AgedOut.com and other youth deliverables are met.
- Work with TELUS Friendly Future Foundation to fulfill Belonging Network’s role in our bursary partnership; identify and expand on other opportunities
- Build positive relationships with other youth-serving organizations in BC and maintain awareness of their offerings, to identify and respond to service gaps and opportunities for collaboration and partnership.
Qualifications & skills:
- Postsecondary education in social work, child welfare or another discipline related to youth service.
- Education / experience in website management and development.
- 3+ years’ experience in supervisory / management roles.
- 3+ years’ experience in program and project management; able to deliver results on time, on budget.
- 3+ years’ experience developing and implementing innovative programs, preferably with a technology element.
- Superb communications skills (written, verbal, and digital) and presentation skills.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills, and attention to detail.
- Good working knowledge of MS Office suite, and ability to learn new software quickly.
- Ideally, lived experience or connection to the world of adoption, kinship and other forms of permanency, and/or foster and government care.
Compensation:
Compensation will be based on a full-time salary of $55,000-65,000 per year, depending on qualifications. This role comes with three weeks of paid vacation, plus our annual December holiday break.
