Full job description

Position: Staff Accountant including Personal Tax Preparation

Responsibilities:

· Preparing personal tax returns for individuals and sole-proprietors:

o Inputting of T-slips to tax preparation software and or verifying accuracy and completeness of slips using Auto-fill process

o Determination of and input of allowable deductions and tax credits including medical expenses and charitable donations

o Summarizing income and expenses for individuals with businesses, farms and rental properties

o Preparation of HST Returns as required

o Meeting with and discussion of tax returns with clients

o Responding to client requests

o Responding to requests from government agencies

o Maintaining electronic files in organized manner based on established policies and procedures

· Preparation of corporate year end files using CaseWare including but not limited to:

o Verifying account balances including banks and credit cards, analysis of discrepancies and posting of adjustments as required

o Calculation of prepaid expenses, accrued receivables and accrued payables

o Verification of capital asset additions and disposals, recording of amortization and gains/losses on disposition

o Reconciliation of loan and capital lease balances including, analysis of discrepancies and posting of adjusting entries as required

o Reconciliation of corporate tax, HST and payroll accounts to government remittances/refunds

o Preparation of HST Returns as required

o Analysis of investment accounts, reconciliation to end of year balances and reconciliation of investment income to end of year T-slips

o Reconciliation of wages

o Completion of audit sampling and testing

o Preparation of draft financial information/financial statements

o Preparation of draft corporate tax return

· Additional responsibilities as required

Skills Required:

· Strong written and verbal communication

· Maintain strict confidentiality related to client information

· Problem solving, critical thinking and reasoning

· Ability to take direction and follow instructions

· Ability to recall information

· Ability to handle competing deadlines

· Ability to work as part of a team

· Willingness to learn

· Ability to research and document conclusions with supporting evidence

Attention to Detail

Computer Software used:

· Profile

· CaseWare with Jazz-It Templates

· Quickbooks (Desktop and Online)

· Sage (Desktop)

· Microsoft Office Suite

· Doc.It

· IFIRM

Relevant details:

· Full-time position with 35 – 37.5 hours per week

o Monday – Friday 8:30 – 5:00 (January – May)

o Monday – Friday 8:30 – 4:30 (June – December)

Work is mainly in office - this is not a fully remote position

· Compensation negotiable based on skill level

· Group benefit plan

· Priority will be given to applicants interested in pursuing the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation

· Applicants will be subject to pre-interview testing to evaluate aptitude and skill level

· Hiring process will be ongoing; interested applicants are encouraged to apply early
