Full job description

Qualifications – Ontario Healthcare Facility

Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
Minimum 3 years of recent Intensive Care Unit (ICU) nursing experience required
Significant ICU experience with the ability to function independently in a fast-paced acute care environment
ACLS, BGM, Basic Cardiac Rhythm, and IV Therapy certifications required
Critical Care course required
Start Date: ASAP
End Date: 3 months with possibility of extension
Must be available to work full-time hours
Must be able to commit to the full duration of the contract
Must be willing to be cross-trained to other units to provide coverage as needed

Responsibilities

Registered Nurses are required to adhere to the scope of practice as defined by the College of Nurses of Ontario. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients within the Intensive Care Unit
Perform ongoing patient assessments and monitor complex clinical conditions
Administer medications, intravenous therapies, and advanced treatments in accordance with physician orders and facility protocols
Operate and monitor critical care equipment, including cardiac monitoring systems and infusion devices
Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and implement patient care plans
Respond effectively to medical emergencies and changes in patient condition
Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation in accordance with professional standards
Assist with coverage in other clinical areas following orientation and cross-training as required
Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, infection prevention protocols, and patient safety standards

Note: Duties may vary slightly based on facility and shift, with specific guidance provided during site orientation.

Experience

Minimum 3 years of recent ICU nursing experience required
Demonstrated ability to work independently in a critical care environment
Experience caring for patients with complex and high-acuity medical conditions
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team
Strong clinical judgment and adaptability in high-pressure situations

Skills

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong critical thinking and clinical decision-making abilities
Ability to prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced critical care environment
Strong attention to detail for accurate documentation and medication administration
Proficiency in patient assessment, monitoring, and emergency response
Compassion, professionalism, and a patient-centered approach to care
