What you'll do
The Senior Safety Advisor role strategically leads, supports, and coordinates a portfolio of safety programs to improve
worker safety at BC Hydro. This role includes advising on safety technical issues and engaging the business on program
development, implementation, sustainment and assurance, and communicates requirements, responsibilities, processes,
procedures, and supporting documentation. The Senior Safety Advisor also provides support to BC Hydro business groups
with input into execution level plans, processes, and procedures to meet the requirements of WorkSafe BC Regulations and
BC Hydro’s Safety Framework.
The focus of this role is acting as the Program Coordinator for a portfolio of Safety Programs. These duties include, but are
not limited to:
- Understand, interpret and apply safety legislation in relation to business activities to ensure clear, concise and applicable
direction is provided to business groups in alignment to safety governance, roles and responsibilities and documented in
program requirements.
- Develop and write program requirements and other safety documents for workplace hazards and provide strategic,
proactive options for mitigating the risk related to those hazards.
- Lead safety program development, implementation, sustainment and assurance using a predefined and consistent
process to ensure business group engagement, clear sustainment expectations and on-going alignment to safety
governance, roles and responsibilities.
- Engage with multiple stakeholders to develop and sustain practical, workable solutions to meet asset management,
operational and other business needs and to support BC Hydro in meeting its obligations as an Owner and Employer under
the Workers Compensation Act and regulations.
- Supporting the Senior Vice-President Safety, Executive Team members, and their delegates to carry out their safety
program responsibilities.
- Monitoring and responding to regulatory changes, communicating the impacts and supporting business groups to respond.
- Providing technical subject matter expert support.
- On-going monitoring to drive consistency in program implementation, risk identification and reporting to senior leaders
across the organization.
- Coordinating reporting, including the annual program review and communicating results to senior leaders and other
audiences.
- Provide subject matter expertise and coaching to business group representatives and other safety team members to
ensure safety improvements meet business and operational needs as well as regulatory compliance.
