Position Overview :
Business and Technical Training College is seeking an experienced and entrepreneurial professional to join our team as a Consultant, Skilled Trades Programs & Campus Development. This contract position will play a key role in supporting the planning, development, and expansion of College's Skilled Trades Training Division.
The successful candidate will provide strategic expertise in labour market research, skilled trades program identification, curriculum and training framework development, campus and training facility planning, and operational readiness. Working closely with senior leadership, the Consultant will help assess opportunities, develop recommendations, and support the establishment of innovative skilled trades training programs that align with industry needs and workforce demands across Ontario.
This is a newly created position at Business and Technical Training College established to support the strategic development and expansion of the College's Skilled Trades Training Division
Key Responsibilities :
- Conduct labour market and industry research to identify high-demand skilled trades occupations and training opportunities in Ontario.
- Assess and recommend skilled trades programs that align with current workforce needs and employment opportunities.
- Develop program frameworks, course outlines, learning outcomes, and training structures for proposed skilled trades programs.
- Review industry standards and best practices to ensure programs meet employer expectations and labour market requirements.
- Advise on the development and design of skilled trades training facilities, workshops, and practical learning environments.
- Identify equipment, tools, materials, technology, and infrastructure requirements necessary for program delivery.
- Provide recommendations regarding facility layout, classroom design, workshop space requirements, safety considerations, and operational readiness.
- Research training models, delivery methods, and industry-recognized certifications relevant to skilled trades education.
- Assist in developing implementation plans, budgets, timelines, and resource requirements for new program launches.
- Provide guidance regarding instructor qualifications, staffing requirements, and operational needs.
- Prepare reports, recommendations, feasibility assessments, and strategic development plans for senior leadership.
- Participate in meetings with college leadership and provide ongoing consultation throughout the planning and development process
Requirements :
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in skilled trades education, curriculum development or apprenticeship training
- Minimum 5 years of experience establishing, managing, or supporting skilled trades training facilities, workshops, apprenticeship programs, or technical training centres.
- Experience working with post-secondary institutions, private career colleges, apprenticeship training providers is considered a strong asset.
- Strong understanding of Ontario's skilled trades sector, labour market trends, workforce development initiatives, and industry training requirements.
- Demonstrated experience developing curriculum, training programs, competency-based learning models, and instructional resources for skilled trades education.
- Extensive knowledge of training facility requirements, equipment, tools, safety standards, and operational considerations for skilled trades learning environments.
- Proven ability to conduct research, feasibility assessments, labour market analyses, and strategic planning initiatives.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple priorities, timelines, and stakeholders simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other business productivity tools.
Work Schedule:
The successful candidate will be expected to manage their time effectively and meet project milestones, deliverables, and deadlines as established by the College.

Future Opportunity:
This position is being offered initially as a part-time consulting opportunity. As College continues to expand its Skilled Trades Training Division, there may be an opportunity for the successful candidate to transition into a full-time leadership role based on organizational needs, performance, and program growth.
