Job Overview
We are seeking a versatile Intermediate Structural Designer / Structural Technologist to join our Niagara Falls office. This role is primarily focused on structural design, with occasional and light architectural design responsibilities to support project coordination and permitting requirements.
You will be responsible for preparing structural calculations and drawings, while also assisting with basic architectural layouts, plans, and documentation where required. Projects may include residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities across Southern Ontario.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare structural design drawings, calculations, and documentation using AutoCAD and Revit
- Assist with light architectural design work, including:
- Basic floor plans, elevations, sections, and layouts
- Architectural drawings required for permitting or coordination
- Prepare schematic drawings and design packages for review by engineers
- Review and apply the Ontario Building Code, including:
- Part 3 (large buildings)
- Part 9 (small / residential buildings)
- Prepare structural bid and construction drawings for residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial projects
- Manage projects from conception to completion, including:
- Coordinating with contractors, architects, and municipal officials
- Supporting building permit submissions
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, architects, and sub‑consultants
- Assist with site visits, field reviews, and contract administration
- Communicate effectively with clients and project stakeholders
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Structural Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or Construction Technology
- 1–5 years of experience in structural design (recent graduates with strong technical knowledge will be considered)
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD (required)
- Proficiency in Revit (required)
- Solid understanding of structural systems (steel, concrete, wood)
- Working knowledge of basic architectural drawings and layouts
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Building Code
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage time and meet deadlines
- OACETT membership or eligibility required
- BCIN certification considered an asset
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $65,000 – $85,000 per year, commensurate with experience
