Occupational Therapist Assistant/Physiotherapist Assistant, Veterans Care Program - 1 position

Temporary Full Time
Salary Range: $31.40 - $32.10 /hour

This is a temporary full-time that is anticipated to extend until June 30, 2027, and is subject to the availability of work.

It is understood that the hours of work reflect the current scheduling arrangements and are subject to change as determined by the Employer.

The Veterans Care Program assists war service Veterans whose daily functioning and health may be affected by chronic physical and mental illnesses and episodic health problems. You will provide quality care and work within a comprehensive interdisciplinary team to promote the health and well-being and meet the social, emotional and spiritual needs of Veterans requiring substantial assistance with activities of daily living. We support Veterans to be as independent as possible and to reach their full capability within a safe environment. Families are key partners in our care team and are supported by the team to adjust and adapt to the changing needs of the family member.

The OTA/PTA, working under the direction of OT and PT staff, will implement treatment plans for patients/residents to assist in goal attainment while addressing needs such as functional mobility, activities of daily living, seating and positioning, skin and wound care and psychosocial or cognitive function.

In a supportive learning environment, the OTA/PTA will have the opportunity to develop and strengthen a broad range of skills guided by sound clinical judgment and evidence-based practice guidelines.

Essential Qualifications

Physiotherapy Assistant and Occupational Therapy Assistant diploma or dual OTA/PTA diploma from a recognized program that includes a placement component in each discipline
Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
Demonstrated knowledge of the geriatric population
Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, physical and cognitive disabilities and their potential impact on task performance and physical function
Experience with the implementation of occupational therapy and physiotherapy programs, such as functional mobility retraining, assisting with implementing PROM/AROM exercises, assisting with the fabrication of assistive devices, monitoring an ADL program, positioning aids, wheelchair and seating components as well as orthotics
Excellent communication skills with patients, family, volunteers and other members of the care team
Able to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team environment
Able to meet the physical demands of the position (eg. Lifts and transfers, able to assist therapist in physical treatment techniques)
Able to utilize computer systems (eg. Workload measurement, Outlook, Word)
Keen observational skills
Able to work independently and be self-directed

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency in French would be an asset
Clinical experience with geriatric populations with complex medical issues
Basic knowledge/awareness of assistive technology

Immunization Requirements

Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps rubella, varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, COVID-19 and influenza.
Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
