Job Title: Packaging Mechanic
Job Description
This role supports a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility by maintaining, troubleshooting, and fabricating parts for high-speed packaging and production equipment used to produce medications. The mechanic focuses on preventive maintenance, repairs, and fabrication to keep production lines running safely and efficiently in a GMP environment.
Responsibilities

Perform preventive maintenance (PMs) and repairs on high-speed pharmaceutical packaging equipment used for solid, semi-solid, and liquid medications.

Troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, and packaging-related issues on production and packaging lines to minimize downtime.

Work with tablet presses, capsule fillers, blenders, granulation machines, dryers, coating machines, blister packers, bottling machines, and filling machines.

Collaborate closely with millwrights, electricians, and other maintenance team members to resolve equipment issues and complete maintenance tasks.

Follow GMP standards, site procedures, and safety protocols while performing all maintenance and fabrication work.

Document maintenance activities, repairs, and part fabrication in accordance with site and regulatory requirements.

Participate in shift rotations and respond to maintenance needs across all shifts as part of a 24-hour operation.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance equipment reliability and efficiency.
Must be willing to learn

Assist in fabricating new and replacement machine parts using lathes, mills, and other machining and fabrication equipment.

Support welding, machining, and general fabrication activities as required to maintain and improve equipment performance.
Essential Skills
-
Minimum of 3 years of experience as a mechanic

Hands-on experience with pharmaceutical packaging machines or similar high-speed packaging equipment.

Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve equipment issues quickly.

Experience working with tablet presses, capsule fillers, blenders, granulation machines, dryers, coating machines, blister packers, bottling machines, and filling machines.

Proficiency with pneumatics as applied to packaging and production machinery.

Ability to work safely and effectively in a GMP-regulated environment.

Willingness and ability to work a rotating three-shift schedule (days, afternoons, nights).
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Completion of a relevant apprenticeship program in Canada is an asset.

Willingness to learn and further develop skills in fabrication, including welding, machining, lathe, and mill operations.

Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary maintenance team of millwrights and electricians.

Strong attention to detail and adherence to documentation and regulatory requirements.

Work Environment
This position is based in a GMP-compliant pharmaceutical manufacturing facility that operates 24 hours a day with three rotating shifts. The shift rotation typically changes every 2–4 weeks and includes days (approximately 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.), afternoons (approximately 3:00 p.m.–11:30 p.m.), and nights (approximately 11:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.). You will work within a maintenance team of roughly 10 millwrights and 10 electricians, supporting high-speed packaging lines medications. The facility is very clean and organized, reflecting strict quality and regulatory standards. On-site amenities include a basketball court, gym, nurse, and a lunchroom with subsidized lunches, creating a comfortable and supportive work setting. Attire is consistent with a GMP pharmaceutical production environment, including appropriate safety and hygiene gear as required for working around manufacturing and packaging equipment.
