Overview:
The Manager, Health & Safety, IPAC and Compliance is responsible for leading the organization's occupational health and safety, infection prevention and control (IPAC), workplace injury management, and related compliance programs. The role provides strategic leadership and operational oversight to ensure a safe, healthy, and compliant environment for employees, clients, volunteers, and visitors.
The Manager leads the development, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of organizational programs related to workplace health and safety, IPAC, WSIB claims management, risk mitigation, data analytics, and research initiatives. Working collaboratively across departments, the position supports organizational effectiveness through evidence-based practices, regulatory compliance, and quality improvement.
We are currently recruiting for 1 Full-time Manager Level role. This is a new position within the organization.
Responsibilities:
Occupational Health & Safety
- Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of occupational health and safety programs, policies, and procedures
- Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, regulations, and organizational standards
- Conduct workplace inspections, hazard assessments, and risk evaluations
- Lead incident investigations and recommend corrective and preventive actions
- Monitor workplace safety performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement
- Coordinate Joint Health and Safety Committee activities and ensure legislative requirements are met. Act as the manager representative and co-chair of JHSC
- Develop and deliver safety education and training programs
Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC)
- Lead the organization's IPAC program and ensure alignment with public health requirements and best practices
- Develop, implement, and review IPAC policies, procedures, and protocols
- Monitor compliance with infection prevention standards and conduct audits as required
- Provide education, guidance, and support to managers and staff regarding IPAC practices
- Coordinate outbreak preparedness and response activities when required
WSIB and Disability Management
- Manage all workplace injury and illness claims, including reporting, documentation, return-to-work planning, and case management
- Act as the primary liaison with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB)
- Collaborate with employees, managers, healthcare providers, and external stakeholders to support safe and timely return-to-work programs
- Monitor claim trends and develop strategies to reduce organizational risk and costs
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with legislative reporting requirements, including payment accuracy and reporting
Data Analytics, Research and Quality Improvement
- Lead the collection, analysis, and reporting of health, safety, IPAC, and WSIB data
- Develop dashboards, metrics, and reports to support organizational decision-making
- Identify trends, risks, and opportunities for program enhancement
- Conduct research and environmental scans to inform policy development and best practices
- Support quality improvement initiatives through evidence-based recommendations
Leadership and Organizational Support
- Provide subject matter expertise and consultation to leaders and employees
- Participate in organizational planning and risk management initiatives
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with external agencies, regulators, consultants, and community partners
- Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for senior leadership
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the organization
- Provide education and training on compliance and regulations to agency
Qualifications and Experience:
Education
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Public Health, Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Human Resources, or a related field
- Relevant certifications in Occupational Health and Safety, IPAC, or related disciplines are considered an asset
- Joint Health & Safety Certified is considered an asset
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in health and safety, IPAC, disability management, risk management, or a related field
- Experience managing programs and committees
- Experience managing WSIB claims and return-to-work programs
- Experience developing policies, procedures, and organizational compliance programs
- Experience conducting data analysis, reporting, and quality improvement initiatives
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and regulations including Toronto Shelter Standards and Toronto Public Health regulations
- Knowledge of infection prevention and control principles and practices
- Understanding of WSIB legislation, claims management, and return-to-work processes, including the duty to accommodate
- Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
- Strong project management and organizational abilities
- Exceptional communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills
- Proficiency with data analysis, reporting tools, and Microsoft Office applications
