What You’ll Do:
The fixed term Safety Specialist will play a key role in supporting and advancing Metrie’s safety and health initiatives during a maternity leave coverage period, partnering closely with teams across North America to promote a strong, proactive safety culture. This role is primarily responsible for coordinating and administering safety and claims processes, ensuring programs are executed effectively and consistently across the sites
This position will report directly to the Corporate Safety Director and work closely with other channel leaders.
Location: In-Branch, 4 days per week in Halton Hills Toronto
Employment Type: This is a full time, fixed-term role created to provide 12 months of maternity leave coverage. While this role has a defined end date, there may be potential opportunities beyond the initial term, depending on business needs and individual performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Policy / Program Development and Maintenance
Support updates to current ergonomic and safety policies.
Maintain and organize documents of Metrie’s EHS-related programs and policies.
Support the role out and awareness of environmental, health, safety, and ergonomics initiatives across the organization
Provide input and feedback to support Metrie’s HS and ergonomics culture advancement
Incident Investigation
Utilize internal reporting platform (Velocity EHS) to assist in documenting incident investigations across Metrie.
Encourage and support Near Miss reporting and investigating significant near misses thoroughly.
Work closely with local teams to coordinate corporate staff’s consultation on investigations and corrective action development as needed.
Assist teams in reporting incidents and near misses for communication to the broader organization
Provide administrative assisting with OSHA/Provincial Regulatory investigations as needed
Actively participate in channel calls and capture any notes (use of AI, etc.) to share back to the attendees.
Support and assist within the workers’ compensation processes in Canada
Training and Education
Update and support HS and ergonomics training materials, quizzes, and resources as needed.
Assist with delivering employee training, including Metrie Discover modules and HumanTech ergonomics assessment training.
Track training completion, maintain records and matrices, and report compliance gaps for KPI/metric purposes.
Maintain rosters, job classifications, training assignments, audit documentation, and other records supporting safety, ergonomics, and compliance programs.
Provide administrative support for safety meetings, action item follow-up, document control, reporting, and other tasks as assigned.
KPI’s/Metrics
Track monthly metrics, including pro-active KPI’s, and Injury Rate data
Produce weekly and monthly dashboards to communicate out ergo-safety metrics
Compliance/Auditing
Participate in the coordination of ergo-safety/engagement activities (audits)
Document site operations safety-ergonomic compliance
Support and assist with implementation of safety-ergonomic improvements
Support compliance activities involving Canadian workers, including coordination with provincial requirements, documentation practices, and workers’ compensation or return-to-work processes where applicable
Who You Are:
We would love to hear from you if you have:
3–5 years of experience in safety, EHS, or a related role within a manufacturing, distribution, or operational environment
Have a 4-year or 2-year degree in a safety-related (EHS) field from an accredited college or university
Knowledge of safety & security regulations across Canada and the USA
Are a strong verbal and written communicator
Are great at time management, prioritization, and problem solving
Enjoy working independently but also collaboratively with a team
Are proficient with Microsoft Office tools

In adherence to the principle of pay transparency, we are pleased to disclose the base pay for this full-time position at Metrie. The base pay range for this role is set at $65,000 - $75,000. It is important to note that this position may also qualify for discretionary bonuses or commission payments, we reserve the right to make changes to the variable program. The specific base pay within the range will be contingent upon an individual's skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location. Furthermore, it is essential to highlight that our remuneration ranges are established based on the role, level, and location. Please note that the actual pay may vary and can be higher or lower than the posted range based on these factors.
