Role Overview
Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Operations, the Director of Human Resources serves as a strategic business partner to Hotel General Managers and corporate leadership across the Sunray Group portfolio. This position is based out of Sunray Group's Corporate Head Office located at 245 Yorkland Boulevard, North York, Ontario, and is responsible for fostering a highly engaged, people-centric culture that promotes collaboration, accountability, and operational excellence across multiple hotel properties.

Key Responsibilities
Talent Acquisition, Development & Performance Management
- Lead and continuously improve core Human Resources functions, including talent acquisition, onboarding, employee lifecycle management, learning and development, succession planning, performance management, and employee engagement.
- Partner with corporate and property leadership teams to understand business objectives, workforce requirements, and talent priorities.
- Oversee full-cycle recruitment processes for leadership and key operational positions across the portfolio.
- Develop and implement onboarding and orientation programs that support employee engagement and long-term retention.
- Identify organizational talent risks and collaborate with leaders to develop proactive mitigation and succession strategies.
- Support Regional Directors and General Managers in workforce planning, talent development, career progression, leadership development, and training initiatives.
- Design, implement, and manage performance management processes and employee development frameworks across all properties.
- Facilitate leadership development programs, coaching initiatives, and training programs that enhance organizational capability and bench strength.
- Develop and oversee succession planning initiatives that strengthen internal talent pipelines and support future business needs.
Employee Relations & Organizational Effectiveness
- Provide expert guidance to leaders on employee relations matters, investigations, conflict resolution, performance concerns, disciplinary actions, terminations, and workplace accommodations.
- Partner with leaders to develop initiatives that strengthen employee engagement, organizational culture, and team performance.
- Lead organizational development initiatives that support employee growth, career advancement, and continuous improvement.
- Design and manage employee recognition and rewards programs that enhance engagement and retention.
- Develop communication strategies and employee feedback mechanisms that promote transparency, inclusion, and alignment.
- Act as the subject matter expert for HR policies, procedures, programs, and organizational initiatives across the portfolio.
Labour Relations & Compliance
- Support labour relations activities, including collective bargaining negotiations, grievance management, contract interpretation, and ongoing union-management relations.
- Provide guidance to property leaders on collective agreement administration and labour-related matters.
- Ensure compliance with employment standards, human rights legislation, occupational health and safety regulations, and all applicable federal and provincial legislation.
- Maintain accurate employee records and HR documentation in accordance with legal and corporate requirements.
- Monitor regulatory changes and recommend policy updates to ensure ongoing compliance and risk mitigation.
Health, Safety & Risk Management
- Direct and oversee Workers' Compensation and WSIB programs, including claims management, reporting, and return-to-work initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety legislation, company policies, and hotel brand standards.
- Lead group-wide Joint Health and Safety Committee initiatives and promote a proactive safety culture across all properties.
- Identify opportunities to improve workplace safety, reduce organizational risk, and manage associated costs.
- Monitor training compliance and participation in mandatory health and safety programs.
Compensation, Benefits & Workforce Planning
- Conduct annual compensation and benefits benchmarking to ensure Sunray Group remains competitive within the hospitality market.
- Provide recommendations regarding compensation structures, benefits offerings, and employee retention strategies.
- Support workforce planning and organizational design initiatives to optimize efficiency and business performance.
- Leverage HR metrics and workforce analytics to support strategic decision-making and measure program effectiveness.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related discipline (required).
Professional Certification
- CHRP designation (required).
- CHRL designation considered a strong asset.
Experience
- Minimum 5-7 years of progressive Human Resources leadership experience, including experience in a Director-level or senior HR leadership capacity.
- Experience supporting multiple business units, hotels, or locations in a multi-site environment.
- Hospitality industry experience is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in employee relations, labour relations, talent management, organizational development, and workforce planning.
- Experience supporting unionized environments is considered a strong asset.
