Business Data Analyst (Summer Intern) – Canada China Business Council
The Canada China Business Council (CCBC) is seeking a Business Data Analyst to join its Corporate Head Office as a summer intern in Toronto. This position is part of CCBC’s Summer Internship Program and is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program, an initiative of the Government of Canada.
Reporting to the Communications Manager and working closely with CCBC’s regional teams, the Business Data Analyst will support initiatives to improve data quality, reporting, and information management across CCBC’s membership, events, communications, and operational activities. The successful candidate will contribute to data improvement projects, reporting initiatives, knowledge management systems, and process optimization efforts while developing practical experience in data analysis, data management, reporting, and business operations. This role offers valuable exposure to how data and information systems support organizational planning, member engagement, operational efficiency, and informed decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Includes but not limited to:
- Review and assess existing data in CRM and other CCBC systems to identify gaps, inconsistencies, and opportunities for improved structure
- Clean, organize, and standardize datasets to enhance accuracy, consistency, and usability across the organization
- Combine and cross-reference multiple data sources to identify patterns, trends, and opportunities for improved reporting and decision-making
- Prepare and structure datasets that may support future AI-enabled tools, automations, and organizational insights
- Assist in organizing and maintaining CCBC’s knowledge management systems, information repositories, and digital assets to improve accessibility, retrieval, and organizational learning
- Assist in developing dashboards, reports, and visual summaries to help CCBC staff interpret and use organizational data effectively
- Document procedures and contribute to workflow improvements that enhance data quality, consistency, and operational efficiency
- Conduct testing and quality assurance activities to ensure data reliability and functionality following updates or process changes
- Collaborate with CCBC staff to understand data requirements and ensure datasets meet operational, membership, event, and communications needs
- Update data dictionaries, field definitions, metadata standards, and internal documentation to support clear and consistent data practices
- Prepare summaries, presentations, and recommendations to communicate findings and support continuous improvement initiatives
- Provide general administrative and analytical support for the Corporate Office and CCBC Chapters, as required
Qualifications & Experience
- Relevant experience in data analysis, data management, business analytics, information management, or a related field gained through academic, professional, volunteer, or project-based work
- Educational background in business, data analytics, information management, or a related discipline
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to organize, clean, interpret, and present data in a clear and meaningful manner
- Experience working with spreadsheets, databases, CRM systems, or other data management tools; familiarity with Microsoft Excel is required
- Familiarity with data visualization, reporting tools, dashboards, business intelligence platforms, data integration, automation, or AI-enabled applications is an asset
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities and deadlines
Work Environment & Location
This role follows a hybrid work model. Candidates based in Toronto are preferred given the location of CCBC’s headquarters and core team activities; however, strong candidates based in Ottawa or other CCBC chapter centres in Canada (Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Halifax) are also encouraged to apply.
