Broadcast & Live Operations

Toronto

Position

The work runs on a shift basis, including evenings and weekends, dictated by the schedule of global live sport.

The live support will be operated onsite (in the client's operations center) in Toronto.

Position

This role sits within Deltatre's TechOps team, supporting the operations and configuration of the online video players and OTT video solutions delivered to high-profile clients in sport and broadcast. The team provides operational support during live sporting events — football, golf, tennis, and similar — across encoding, hosting, and player infrastructure.

You will be responsible for keeping critical services running during live broadcast windows, monitoring across hosting and encoding pipelines, and contributing to the protocols and runbooks that make the operation repeatable.

Responsibilities

Provide live operational support to key projects, monitoring software and hardware performance throughout broadcast windows
Support the video encoding technologies used by the company
Monitor hosting platforms before, during, and after operational events
Operate and monitor live video encoding and packaging for live sporting events
Create and follow operational job sheets and checklists, contributing to their improvement over time
Set up and maintain monitoring across the systems supported
Work with on-premises and cloud hosting platforms (Azure, AWS) to monitor and configure applications
Troubleshoot and triage incidents impacting the platform and the video workflow during live events

Requirements

You can stay focused and follow defined protocols during live events, even when several issues are in play at once. You are comfortable making decisions during live operations with the guidance available, and you know when to escalate.

Required

1+ years' experience in live streaming or broadcast environments
Hands-on experience with live online video streaming, 24/7 channel monitoring, and system and alert monitoring
Experience working with at least one major cloud provider (Azure, AWS, or Alibaba)
Demonstrated familiarity with broadcast systems, IP formats, and streaming protocols and experience in investigating and resolving ingest, encoding, transcoding, and packaging failures (knowledge across AWS Elemental MediaLive, MediaConvert, MediaPackage, and MediaTailor is highly valued)
Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-specialist audiences
Available for evening and weekend shifts as required by global live sport schedules
Ability to produce reliable, clear process documentation

Valued

PowerShell or command-line scripting experience
Previous experience in an external client-facing technical role
CDN Familiarity and hands-on experience with major CDN hosting providers such as Akamai, CloudFront, or Fastly
Demonstrated familiarity with the protocols and systems used in this role, however acquired (degree-educated background welcome but not required)
Genuine interest in sport — useful for context on the events being supported

1-hour Technical round of Interview: we will deep dive on your experience and collect examples of the responsibilities you’ve been dealing with in your past experience. It will be a chance do deep dive on the role and for you to ask questions.
1-hour Competency Based Interview: we are going to ask you some situational questions around how you deal with real-life scenarios at work. Easier doing it, more than explaining it!
