The School of University Arts and Sciences invites applications for a combined Physics and Chemistry Lab faculty assistant. The successful candidate will support student learning by assisting faculty, by setting up and taking down physics labs (primary role), and by setting up and taking down certain chemistry labs (secondary role). This is a short-term, part-time position at the Castlegar campus.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate the setting up, delivery, and taking down of labs with Physics faculty (primary role)
- Coordinate the setting up, delivery, and taking down of labs with Chemistry faculty and with the primary Chemistry faculty assistant (secondary role)
- Assist faculty during labs
- Prepare demonstration and lab materials for lab instruction and experiments
- Demonstrate and enforce safe lab practices and policies
- Organize and maintain lab supplies, equipment, chemicals and safety data sheets
- Coordinate with college staff the purchasing and receiving of supplies and equipment
- Maintain an up-to-date account of expenditures on lab materials and equipment
- Ensure that chemicals and hazardous materials are stored and disposed according to WHMIS regulations
- Perform other duties assigned by the School Chair
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Ability to work as part of a team

- Ability to maintain and operate lab equipment, and handle materials safely

- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills

Education and Experience
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics or a related discipline
- Demonstrated successful work experience in a science laboratory
- Previous Faculty Assistant experience at a post-secondary institution is an asset
Training to take place in August.
This is a short-term, part-time (55%) position commencing August 10, 2026 and ending April 29, 2027. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Selkirk College Faculty Association Collective Agreement. The salary range is $2,167.31 to $3,473.00 bi-weekly (at 100% appointment) and is based on qualifications and experience.
