Position Summary
The Manufacturing Process Improvement Engineer plays a key role in driving operational excellence throughout the organization. Working closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Leadership teams, this position is responsible for identifying, leading, and implementing process improvement initiatives that enhance productivity, quality, safety, delivery performance, and cost efficiency.
The successful candidate will combine strong analytical skills with practical problem-solving abilities to identify opportunities, lead improvement projects, and implement sustainable solutions. Key Responsibilities
Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence
- Identify, prioritize, and lead process improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations.
- Analyze manufacturing processes, workflows, and performance data to identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, productivity, delivery, and cost.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and Industrial Engineering principles to eliminate waste and optimize processes.
- Facilitate and lead Kaizen events, process improvement workshops, and cross-functional improvement teams.
- Develop and implement sustainable solutions that improve operational performance and support long-term business objectives.
Project Leadership
- Lead improvement projects from concept through implementation and sustainment.
- Develop project charters, timelines, action plans, and performance metrics.
- Coordinate activities among multiple departments to ensure successful project execution.
- Monitor project progress and communicate results to stakeholders and leadership.
Data Analysis & Performance Measurement
- Collect, analyze, and interpret production and operational data.
- Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs), dashboards, and reporting systems.
- Conduct time studies, workflow analysis, capacity assessments, and labor utilization studies.
- Use data-driven methodologies to identify root causes and validate improvement opportunities.
Process Development & Standardization
- Create and maintain process documentation, standard work instructions, visual controls, and operating procedures.
- Support the implementation and sustainment of best practices throughout the organization.
- Conduct process audits to ensure compliance with established standards.
- Support change management activities to ensure successful adoption of new processes.
Manufacturing Support
- Collaborate with production teams to resolve operational challenges and improve workflow efficiency.
- Support new product introductions through process development, workstation design, tooling evaluation, and production readiness activities.
- Assist with facility layout improvements, material flow optimization, and workplace organization initiatives.
- Work closely with Quality and Maintenance teams to improve process capability and equipment effectiveness.
Team Collaboration & Leadership
- Build strong relationships with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Facilitate problem-solving sessions and engage frontline employees in continuous improvement efforts.
- Provide coaching and training on Lean principles, process improvement tools, and best practices.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and operational excellence.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience leading continuous improvement or operational excellence initiatives.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and tools including:
- Value Stream Mapping
- 5S
- Standard Work
- Kaizen
- Root Cause Analysis
- Visual Management
- Waste Elimination
- Experience with process mapping, time studies, and workflow analysis.
- Familiarity with quality systems and problem-solving methodologies.
- Experience using data analysis and reporting tools.
- Project management experience would be considered an asset.
