Full job description

Under the general direction of the Operations Manager or their designate, the Lab Technician is responsible for the laboratory aspects of day-to-day operations at a water treatment and used oil processing facility.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and clean glassware required for sample analysis.
Perform daily water treatment analysis and reports (COD, BOD, Chloride, TKN, PH, Phosphate, Suspended Solids, Sulfate etc.)
Perform analysis on oil process (BS&W, metals, etc).
Perform routine calibration, sample preparation, and analyses using AA, GC, and other instrumentation.
Troubleshoot issues with laboratory instrumentation.
Report analytical results and coordinate effectively with operations personnel.
Maintain accurate records for analysis, maintenance, and production.
Complete documentation for provincial and federal regulations governing incoming waste.
Monitor laboratory supplies and coordinate re-supply requests with purchasing personnel.
Troubleshoot problems and assist with special research, projects or additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Key Competencies

Education: Environmental or Chemical Engineering Technician/Technologist diploma, Chemistry degree, or related field.
Experience: Previous laboratory experience is considered an asset.
Technical Skills: Competent computer skills.
Soft Skills: Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Work Style: Motivated, detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and able to work in a team with minimal supervision.
