As the Director, Social Performance, you will provide strategic leadership for Newmont’s social performance programs, helping to build and maintain strong relationships with local communities, Indigenous groups, regulatory bodies, and other key stakeholders throughout the mine lifecycle. By translating enterprise social performance strategies into meaningful action at the country and site levels, you will help manage social risk, protect and create long-term value, and support sustainable outcomes for both Newmont and the communities where we operate. Through your leadership, you will strengthen organizational capability, drive accountability, and ensure social performance remains a key contributor to business success. The Director, Social Perfirmance, will oversee both of our BC mines, Brucejack and Red Chris. This is a 12-month temporary opportunity.
- Lead the implementation of enterprise social performance strategies, governance frameworks, standards, and systems across country and site operations to ensure consistency and alignment with global objectives.

Guide and support social performance teams and operational leaders in delivering programs that strengthen community relationships, manage social risk, and create sustainable value.

Partner with site leadership and operational teams to establish public commitments, targets, and initiatives that support positive community outcomes and responsible mining practices.

Develop and oversee assurance and governance programs that measure performance, identify risks, and drive continuous improvement across social performance activities.

Provide strategic advice to senior leaders on social performance risks, stakeholder engagement, community relations, and emerging issues that may impact business objectives.

Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of social performance programs, preparing reports and recommendations for senior management on key risks, trends, and opportunities.

Foster strong relationships with Indigenous communities, local stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and external organizations to support constructive engagement and long-term partnerships.

Build capability within site social performance teams through coaching, mentoring, succession planning, and professional development initiatives.

Promote leading practices in social performance, stakeholder engagement, participatory monitoring, and community development across Newmont operations.

Lead and develop a high-performing, inclusive team culture that encourages collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Performance, Community Development, Social Sciences, Indigenous Studies, Public Policy, Sustainability, or a related discipline.

Extensive experience leading social performance, stakeholder engagement, community relations, Indigenous relations, or sustainability programs within mining, natural resources, infrastructure, or similarly complex industries.

Demonstrated expertise developing and implementing social performance strategies, systems, standards, and governance frameworks across multiple operations or jurisdictions.

Strong understanding of community engagement, Indigenous relations, participatory monitoring, social risk management, and sustainable development principles.

Proven ability to advise senior leaders on social performance risks, opportunities, and stakeholder-related business impacts.

Experience developing partnerships with communities, Indigenous groups, regulators, government agencies, and external organizations to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.

Strong commercial acumen with experience managing budgets, forecasting, planning, performance reporting, and strategic business initiatives.

Exceptional leadership, coaching, and team development skills, with a track record of building inclusive, high-performing teams.

Advanced communication, influencing, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to communicate complex issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.

The Newmont Social Performance team is now recruiting for the position of Director, Social Performance (temporary 12-month) with a competitive base salary between $175,600 – $250,800. The offered base salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies, with consideration to internal equity. The expected salary range for this role is CAD $ 175,600.00 - $250,800.00 / year. This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s pay history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about pay history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
