Reporting to the Manager – Health, Safety & Security, the Superintendent – Health & Safety is responsible for leading the implementation and sustainment of the Blackwater Mine Health and Safety Management Program, including critical risk standards across the mine site.
Location: Blackwater Mine Site
Schedule: Two (2) Weeks On - Two (2) Weeks Off Rotation
Responsibilities:
Strategy and Leadership

Assist the Manager of Health, Safety and Security in developing, implementing and monitoring the operations Safety Management Systems, including policies, procedures and standards.

Demonstrate effective safety leadership by promoting, enforcing, coaching and mentoring all personnel of the BW Gold’s safety standards, procedures, and safety systems.

Prepares and facilitates health and safety related meetings and training.
Compliance and Risk Management
-
Audit the workplace, identify hazards, and make recommendations to reduce exposure to the workforce
-
Regularly audit and inspect the operation for compliance with the HSRC for Mines in BC, Regulations, and company policies / procedures.

Oversee the inherent programs i.e., Hazard/ Risk Safety System, Safety Meetings, Event Reporting and Investigation quality, Action Management, Contractor Safety Management.

Ensure quality risk assessments are being performed to identify hazards and controls to reduce or eliminate risks in the workplace.

Advise workers, supervisors, and management personnel on technical safety & health matters to include industry best practices.

Liaise with regulatory authorities at the site level to promote safety and assist in resolving any issues of non-compliance.
Incident Management and Investigations

Report to managers on the safety and health status of their departments.

Lead the investigation and incident reporting process to develop a culture of reporting hazards, incident and near misses while identifying root cause and corrective or preventative actions that will reduce, prevent or eliminate injuries and incidents in the workplace.

Analyze safety data; prepare and distribute reports.
Training and Mentorship

Advise trainers on the safety and health content of training courses.

Remains up to date on all safety-related regulations and codes.
Emergency Response

Develop, implement and maintain a robust emergency response program for a remote mining operation.
Safety Culture Development

Reviews Behaviour Based Observations and Critical Control Verifications quality and compliance with the leading indicator program, identifies workers needing additional guidance or training to imp·
- Coordinates the implementation of new systems or improvements to existing systems; monitors effectiveness, taking best practice principles into account.

Coordinates with department managers and line management regarding the review and implementation of safety policies and procedures and determination of safety needs; acts as a technical safety resource.rove the quality of hazard assessment, incident, and risk mitigation.

Coordinate health and safety activities including wellbeing activities.

Other duties as assigned/required.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 10 years of Safety leadership in a Superintendent role at an operating mine site.

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Occupational Health and Safety Systems Management.

Experience in surface mining operations including drill & blast, mobile maintenance, load, haul dump operations, crushing operations, process operations and mine traffic management.

Experience interacting with mines inspectors and exceptional knowledge of local mine regulations.

Valid driver’s license.

Surface Mine Rescue Certification preferred.

Must have experience with Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams.
