Full job description

Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Legal Assistant to join our legal team. This role provides vital support to attorneys by interfacing with clients, conveying real estate transactions, creating and understanding legal documentation, and managing administrative tasks. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and familiarity with real estate transactions. Preference will go to a candidate experienced in other areas of law, including wills, estates and corporate law.

Responsibilities

Assist with legal drafting, including correspondence, contracts, Land Titles documents, financing documents, affidavits and declarations, and other legal documents
Review legal documents for accuracy and consistency
Manage multiple files with different deadlines and scheduling reasonable time for both the candidate and involved attorneys to meet those deadlines
Organize and maintain electronic and physical files
Perform data entry tasks with high accuracy to ensure case files are up-to-date
Support attorneys with filing, document organization, and meeting preparation
Maintain professional phone etiquette when communicating with clients, vendors, co-workers and lawyers and assistants from other firms
Perform general clerical duties such as scheduling appointments, managing calendars, and handling correspondence

Experience

Prior administrative or clerical experience in a legal setting is preferred
Familiarity with real estate conveyancing is essential
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
Excellent writing skills for drafting and proofreading legal documents
Experience with project management and maintaining detailed records
Knowledge of legal procedures, filing systems, and file management systems such as Esilaw
Effective communication skills including professional phone etiquette
