Full job description

The Residential Supervisor leads and oversees the day-to-day operations of the residential group home to ensure the program meets licensing requirements, accreditation standards, and is in alignment with agency values, policies, and procedures. The Supervisor acts as a positive model for staff and promotes positive employee-employer relations while observing the collective agreement, agency policies, and other relevant legislation.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

· Protect client rights.

· Prepare for licensing inspections and accreditation inspections and respond appropriately to recommendations.

· Schedule residence staff appropriately.

· Orientate and train and develop new and current staff in accordance with policy and procedure.

· Direct supervision and evaluation of staff. Includes keeping track of attendance and performance.

· Identify and respond appropriately to performance, conduct, and attendance issues, consulting with HR to ensure compliance with the collective agreement, and other legislation.

· Ensure the worksite meets Work Safe BC standards.

· Recognize when it is necessary to escalate an issues or concern to the appropriate person/agency (ie: Program manager, HR, CLBC Facilitator, etc.).

· Ensure resident behaviour and risk assessments are complete and updated as needed.

· Understand, implement, and evaluate resident support plans, behaviour plans, and safety plans.

· Ongoing professional development in best practices for supporting individuals in CLBC programs.

· Guide, support and develop staff using positive and encouraging methods.

· Observe and evaluate staff performance, providing regular feedback and correction where appropriate. Reports performance concerns to HR for performance plan evaluations.

· Observes and keeps record of staff misconduct, reporting to HR for disciplinary plan evaluation.

· Conducts regular staff meetings, documents minutes, and posts to Share vision in a timely manner.

· Collaborates with the Manager or Director on budget creation or revision.

· Responsible for responsible financial management of the program.

· Ensure Critical and other Incident reports are complete and submitted to the appropriate agency.

· Liaise with resident’s family and other external agencies (CLBC, healthcare providers, behaviour experts, Interior Health Licensing Officers).

· Provide input into Policy and Procedure.

· Responding to critical or emergency situations outside of regular business hours.

· Ensure cleanliness, safety, security, and maintenance of the home in accordance with licensing standards, accreditation requirements, and agency policy.

· Ensure the home has a Health and Safety representative.

· Management of resident medication in collaboration with the Medication Advisory Committee and appropriate health care providers (physicians, specialists, pharmacists, etc.).

· Calling casual staff to fill shifts.

· Delegate a Key Worker for each resident.

· Other related duties as required.

Hours of work Typical schedule is Monday to Friday 8 am to 4 pm, but this may be flexible within limitations. However, supervisorsmust be available to respond to critical issues after hours, and on weekends (except when on vacation). Supervisors must also be able to work a vacant shift if the casual list has been exhausted.

Wage: $33 per hour. Pension and Benefits once probation is successfully completed.

Qualifications:

Human Service/Social Work Diploma and three (3) years of experience supporting adults with disabilities in a licensed residential program OR Human Service/Social Work Certificate and five (5) years of experience supporting adults with disabilities in a licensed residential program OR a secondary school diploma and seven (7) years of experience supporting adults with disabilities in a licensed residential program.

Preference will be given to applicants with experience preparing for accreditation and licensing inspections.

Preference will be given to applicants with formal training in person-centred behaviour support.

Preference will be given to applicants with relevant leadership/supervisor experience in a unionized setting.

To be considered for this role, applicants must be able to clearly demonstrate the following through recent experience:

Managing challenging behaviours using a person-centred approach.
Anticipating and responding appropriately to day-to-day and complex problems/issues.
Ability to manage conflict diplomatically, objectively, and in the best interest of the employee-employer relationship.
Ability to recognize when to seek advice or guidance from appropriate sources of expertise such as HR, Program Managers, CLBC Facilitators, etc.
Ability to work effectively with external stakeholders.
Ability to take direction, follow reasonable instructions, and accept feedback.

Required certificates:

· Satisfactory criminal record check for working with vulnerable adults.

· Satisfactory ICBC Driver’s Abstract

· Non-violent crisis intervention training (or equivalent).

· First Aid/CPR.

· Class 5 BC Driver's License (class 4 preferred).

· WHMIS and Food Safe
