As the Team Leader of Trees, Shrubs, & General operations, you will play a key role in ensuring the department achieves sales targets, maintains visual merchandising standards, and ensuring excellent customer service.
Swan Lake Market is a long standing community market with a high quality reputation. The Trees & Shrubs Department is comprised of deciduous and coniferous trees, & shrubs.
The successful candidate will have primary experience and strengths in a tree & shrub nursery plus garden center, customer service & sales, working knowledge and experience with trees & shrubs, and be able to clearly demonstrate that their ability manage inventory and personnel. Responsibilities:
Sales & Customer Service:
- Assist in setting and achieving sales targets for the department.
- Help to Ensure that you and other sales staff have the product knowledge and tools necessary to meet sales goals.
- Ensure a high level of customer service is maintained in person or on the phone.
- Assist in the training and development of seasonal support staff to provide exceptional service to customers.
- Address customer inquiries and concerns, seeking resolution in a timely manner.
- Participate as needed in onsite workshops and or product communications with marketing and other departments.
Visual Merchandising & Plant Care:
- Assist in the planning and execution of visually appealing displays that showcase products.
- Contribute to the regular updating of displays to reflect seasonal trends and promotions.
- Collaborate with other departments to maintain an aesthetically pleasing department layout.
- Ensure that all living plants are cared for and watered as needed.
Inventory Management:
- Assist in identifying & coordinating purchases from suppliers for inventory replenishment.
- Physically receive and handle all inventory and ensure the proper recording into POS system
- Assist in monitoring and managing inventory levels to prevent stockouts and overstock situations.
- Participate in regular inventory audits and help reconcile discrepancies.
- Assist in the maintenance of accurate inventory data within the POS system
Operational Support:
- Assist in the development and regular updating and monitoring of the departmental budgets.
- Contribute to regular reporting on sales performance, inventory levels, and other relevant metrics.
- Aid in implementing strategies to improve department efficiency and effectiveness.
Qualifications:
- 3+yrs Garden Centre / Tree Nursery Sales experience and or Garden Centre Management.
- Demonstrate strong plant knowledge and or hold a technical horticultural degree.
- 3+yrs of retail customer sales experience.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of inventory management.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office or Google Workspace, with strong skills in Word/Docs and Excel/Sheets.
- Experience using databases, POS systems, or industry-specific software.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed during peak season.
- Must be able to stand for long periods and lift/unload stock onto high up shelving
- Hospitality experience a plus
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $23.00-$26.00 per hour
