Position Overview
Island Technical Installations (ITI) is seeking a motivated individual to support our Commissioning Authority (CxA) services across utility, industrial, and mission-critical infrastructure projects throughout North America. This role works directly under senior commissioning authority leadership supporting planning, coordination, documentation, and execution of electrical commissioning activities from design review through energization and turnover.
This position offers exposure to high-voltage systems, protection and control, power system equipment, and large-scale infrastructure commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Support
- Provide technical expertise to clients on electrical installation / commissioning process
- Assist with development of commissioning plans and procedures
- Support review of drawings, specifications, and vendor documentation
- Review inspection & testing data
- Support field verification activities
- Witness onsite inspection and testing activities
- Develop lockout & tagout plans, and system startup/energization plans
- Assist with hands-on inspections, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical equipment/systems when required
Project Coordination
- Interface with contractors, vendors, engineers, and owners
- Support schedule tracking and milestone verification
- Support tracking of commissioning progress and deficiencies
- Track issues, RFIs, and resolution status
- Support turnover documentation and final commissioning packages
- Participate in commissioning meetings and coordination activities
- Assist in compiling commissioning documentation and reports
Travel & Work Environment
This role is based out of our Saanichton, BC facility.
This role includes travel to project sites across North America.
Work will include a mix of office and field responsibilities, with no guaranteed split between the two. The balance of office versus field work will vary depending on specific project requirements and current stage of projects. Travel duration and frequency will vary by project.
Field work may include the following types of sites:
- Electrical Substations
- Heavy Industrial facilities
- Data centers
- Electrical Generation facilities
- Large Construction sites
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Diploma in Electrical Technology, or Red Seal Electrician
- Strong interest in electrical power systems
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Ability to read electrical drawings and schematics
- Strong communication skills
- Willingness to travel, and work extended hours when necessary
Preferred
- P.Eng. designation and in good standing with EGBC
- Power system design or commissioning experience
- Familiarity with protection and control concepts
- Experience with technical documentation
- Knowledge of construction QA/QC and commissioning processes
- Experience on construction sites
- Hands-on experience working with electricity
