Range $38.54/hour, with the potential to reach $45.00/hour (commensurate with proven skills & experience, & incremental increases)

Freeman Lumber is one of North America’s oldest family‑run sawmills, proudly operating in Greenfield, NS since 1832. Our 200‑person team runs a highly automated, fast‑paced operation.
We’re looking for an Electrician who enjoys hands‑on work, solving problems, and keeping advanced equipment running at its best. The position has the option to become a lead role, with responsibilities to assist with training and the delegation of work within the team, offering steady work, strong team support, and the opportunity to advance in responsibilities, as knowledge of the plants' systems increases.
What You Will Do
- Install maintain, troubleshoot, calibrate industrial instrumentation and related devices across the Sawmill
- Install electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, lighting fixtures and other electrical components
- Maintain industrial instrumentation and related devices
- Replace or repair electrical components
- Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage and resistance
- Instruct apprentices
- Maintain, repair, install and test switchgear, transformers, switchboard meters, regulators and reactors
- Maintain, repair, test and install electrical motors, generators, alternators, industrial storage batteries and hydraulic and pneumatic electrical control systems
- Troubleshoot, maintain and repair industrial, electrical and electronic control systems and other related devices
- Interpret electrical code specifications
- Conduct preventive maintenance programs and keep maintenance records
- Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and electrical code specifications to determine layout of industrial electrical equipment installations
- Supervisory Experience
- Supervise and co-ordinate activities of workers
- Read electrical schematics, blueprints and other technical diagrams
- Processing PLC‑based automated equipment and plant power systems
- Diagnose and repair issues with Variable Frequency Drives, Soft Starters, Motor Control Centres, Sensors, PLC hardware/software, and networking systems
- Perform calibration, preventive maintenance, and parameter adjustments
- Work closely with Mechanics, Supervisors, and Operations to maximize uptime
- Support new installations and planned maintenance
- Follow and promote safe work practices, including lockout procedures
What You Will Bring
- Electrical Red Seal certification (or equivalent experience)
- College Diploma in a relevant field
- Experience in industrial installation and troubleshooting
- Strong troubleshooting skills with electrical/electronic systems
- Preferable experience with Allen Bradley (Logix Family) or aptitude to learn
- Knowledge of PLC logic, frequency drives, distributed I/O, and control networks
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Mechanical aptitude would be an asset
- Proficient in Microsoft, Allen Bradley and/or other programming tools
- Be comfortable working in varied indoor and outdoor environments
- Supervisory experience
- Supervise and Coordinate activities of the team
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Availability for shiftwork
