We are seeking an Accident Benefits Assistant to join our Barrie office. Working alongside our Accident Benefits Specialists, you will play an important role in supporting clients and advancing their claims.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Communicate professionally and effectively with clients, insurance companies, and treatment providers.
- Open, maintain, and organize client files using firm software and established procedures.
- Prepare and submit client expense claim forms.
- Draft, prepare, and distribute correspondence to insurers, clients, and treatment providers.
- Manage protected accounts and related documentation.
- Monitor and diarize limitation periods and denial dates.
- Process incoming reports, correspondence, and faxes, ensuring timely routing to the appropriate team members.
- Complete daily scanning and document management, including urgent requests.
- Preparing and formatting supporting documentation for applications.
- Processing insurer examinations and referral assessments.
- Preparing and issuing Notices of Withdrawal.
- Coordinate transportation and accommodation arrangements for client assessments when required.
- Provide additional administrative and legal support as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
Required
- Completion of a Legal Assistant, Law Clerk, or equivalent post-secondary program.
- Exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform effectively in a fast paced environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Professional and courteous approach when interacting with clients, colleagues, and third parties.
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Outlook, with the ability to learn new software quickly.
- Self motivated, dependable, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
Preferred
- At least one year of experience as an Accident Benefits Assistant, Legal Administrator, or Law Clerk in a personal injury practice an asset
- Knowledge of the Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule (SABS).
- Familiarity with the Licence Appeal Tribunal (LAT) process and the Rules of Civil Procedure.
