Supports the implementation and/or maintenance of health information systems.
- Extracts, manipulates, analyzes, and interprets data from health information systems.
- Identifies and assesses data analysis, data management, and project-related issues (e.g., data quality, software issues) and recommends solutions to program areas and management.
- Designs and develops data visualization dashboards to display and analyze health and performance indicators.
- Coordinates projects and assignments through the design, implementation, and evaluation phases of a project cycle according to expected timelines.
- Develops and customizes user guides, standard operating procedures, and protocols for health information systems.
- Provides customer service. Responds quickly to needs and urgent matters, and problem solves in consultation with supervisor.
- Provides consultation on privacy processes, practices, and guidelines, and supports privacy and security audits of departmental health information systems.
- Works with ITS to resolve issues and create and implement solutions related to health information systems.
- Assists with stakeholder consultation and staff training and education.
- Prepares and delivers presentations to staff and management.
- Writes briefs, reports, and other documents.
- Performs quality assurance activities.
- Assesses and analyzes program information for compliance with standard operating procedures, protocols, and user guides.
- Works in a standard office environment. Occasionally travels for meetings.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge and skills in health information systems and database development, management, and analysis are acquired through current enrollment in a related post-secondary program.
- Knowledge of and ability to comply with corporate polices, procedures, and legislation (e.g., privacy, confidentiality, security in protecting health care data).
- Project management skills to plan, implement, monitor, and report on activities.
- Problem-solving skills and ability to work independently to complete projects on time, meet deadlines, and adapt to frequently changing priorities.
- Ability to create process maps, flowcharts, workflows, and project timelines.
- Ability to extract, collate, analyze, and interpret data from health information systems.
- Ability to identify data quality and software issues, and recommend solutions.
- Ability to readily learn new systems and programs.
- Human relations, communication, and facilitation skills to assist the team with following established guidelines and maximize the use of applications; provide information; conduct presentations; and participate as an effective team member.
- Ability to read and understand information related to new technologies, methods, and trends from various sources (e.g., technical manuals, updates, bulletins).
- Ability to write effectively in plain language.
- Familiarity with equity-related approaches to data disaggregation and data governance principles when working with priority populations (e.g., First Nations Principles of OCAP).
- Computer skills with ability to use software such as Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and PowerPoint, SQL, statistical software (e.g. SAS, SPSS), and data visualization software (e.g. Tableau, Power BI).
- Ability to travel within Waterloo Region.
- Ability to support and demonstrate the Region’s values.
