Position Summary:
Offering person-centred care, guided by recovery principles, the Clinical Assistant promotes healing and instills hope while demonstrating the values of the Mental Health and Addictions Program. As a member of a multidisciplinary team within the Specialized Mental Health Program, Clinical Assistants support the daily activities on the unit including being involved in care as outlined by the team and nursing staff. Care duties include but are not limited to assisting patients with basic personal care needs, transporting patients by wheel chair and stretcher, escorting patients into exam rooms or other diagnostic tests, stocking exam and treatment rooms, helping to keep the unit tidy, making beds, taking the patient’s height and weight and documenting the care given accordingly. Contribute to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors
Position Requirements:
- Successful completion of an approved Health Care Aide Program or Personal Support Worker Diploma/Certification from a recognized program or completion of a 1st year nursing program (BScN or Practical Nurse) from an accredited college or university
- CPR certificate at the Heart Saver Level
- Previous experience in assisting patients with basic personal care needed
- Ability to empathize with patients and family members
- Minimum of two years of related experience in a health care setting
- Previous experience working with patients with dementia or mental health illness
- GPA and PIECES training preferred
- Responsible, energetic individual with above average ability to prioritize and organize in a busy environment
- Demonstrated ability to follow through with requests
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team environment
- Capable of working independently and able to take direction
- Knowledge of principles of medical asepsis and universal precautions
- Demonstrated positive relationships with other health care professionals and able to contribute to the development of an environment conducive to excellent patient care
- Willing to work flexible hour
