WHAT YOU WILL DO
As a Driver Operator, you'll play a key role in supporting rail safety across North America. Working alongside our inspection crews, you'll operate specialized rail flaw detection equipment, travel extensively, and help ensure the reliability of critical rail infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate the rail flaw detection vehicle on rail, road, and hi-rail systems in a variety of operating conditions.
- Conduct pre-trip, post-trip, and routine vehicle inspections to ensure equipment is operating safely and efficiently.
- Assist with the setup, calibration, measurement, and recording of ultrasonic testing equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs on vehicles, hi-rail gear, and associated inspection equipment.
- Complete operational reports and documentation required by Ultra-Traxx and our customers.
- Follow all company, customer, and regulatory safety procedures and standards.
- Support and mentor crew members by promoting safe work practices and operational excellence.
- Maintain equipment, tools, and work areas in a clean, organized, and serviceable condition.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- Previous experience operating commercial, industrial, construction, rail, or specialized equipment.
- Rail inspection and ultrasonic testing experience are an asset. However, we are willing to train mechanically inclined candidates who demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and quality.
- Valid driver's license (CDL/Class 1 considered an asset).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Willingness to travel extensively and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to read and follow technical instructions and operating procedures.
- Basic computer skills for reporting and documentation.
- Railroad industry experience, ultrasonic testing experience, passport, or dual citizenship are considered assets but are not required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Travelling regularly across Canada and North America.
- Outdoor work year-round.
- Work is typically completed in the field; however, some office, customer visits, and meetings will be required as needed.
- Shifts between 8-12 hours per day, 5 - 6 days per week, and may range from three weeks up to three months in duration. Individual circumstances are considered when scheduling assignments.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent climbing, walking, and bending throughout the day.
